MOSES LAKE — The quality of play in the Central Washington 1B league can be mercurial.

One night it’s a battle for first place with Pateros, another could be a game decided in the opening quarter.

So, for a young team like Moses Lake Christian Academy, it pays to have a reminder.

“Exactly on our board right there it says you’ve got a job to do, you’ve go to take care of business,” head coach Lonny Brown said. “We’re trying to treat it one game at a time. We’ve been on both sides of a halftime score like that and kind of my thoughts are it’s always 0-0 so when we come out the second half I don’t want no letdowns. We’ve got to keep playing.”

MLCA had little resistance from Easton in a wire-to-wire win 55-17.

The Lions led 39-9 at halftime and the running clock was initiated in the third quarter.

Pierre Boorman, MLCA’s eighth grade point guard, dazzled in the first quarter with 11 points. Boorman completed a three-point play to punctuate an 8-0 spurt to start of the game. A three-pointer from the left corner by Boorman pushed the Lions’ lead to double digits, 17-5.

MLCA held Easton scoreless much of the first half and took a 20-point lead after another long-range shot from Boorman.

“Defense has been there all season long and offensively we have our challenge, but at the defensive end I think that’s our strength and it’s been there all season,” Brown said.

The Lions breezed to a 39-9 lead at halftime. Easton senior Owen Dodge accounted for all nine of his team’s points.

Moses Lake Christian continued to roll behind the interior play of Walter and Weston Meise. The Meises combined for 19 points, navigating around Easton’s 6-foot-2 post Alden Dehuff.

“That kid likes to jump ... and so we’ve been really stressing the kids you’ve got to pump fake and try to go through him,” Brown said. “We did it a couple times and he got fouls and it makes him sit on the bench a little bit.”
