On Christmas day 2007, Richard Cobia left behind his old, well-used, well-traveled body. He came here 98 years ago, two days before Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, 1909, on a farm in South Carolina. His mother, Mary Florence (Shorter) Cobia died five days later. A year and two months later his father, Benjamin Cobia died. They left their eleven children one lasting legacy, that of faith and membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Richard's older brothers and sisters kept a promise made to their dying mother when she pleaded, "Keep the family together." No matter where they went or the circumstances in their lives they were always close and helped each other through out their lives.

Gladys "Marie" Holmes, 83, of Moses Lake, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at Sunbridge Care Center in Moses Lake. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel in Moses Lake. There will be a viewing for family and friends at Kayser's Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at 8 a.m. until noon. Following will be a memorial service at the Emannuel Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gene White officiating. There will be a fellowship afterward. Graveside services will be at the Terrace Heights Cemetery in Yakima, Wash., on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Gene White officiating. Marie is survived by a sister, Anna Assink of Yakima, a son, Doyle Holmes of Moses Lake, a stepdaughter, Margie Holmes of Pompano Beach, Fla., and one step-granddaughter, Michelle. Preceding her in death were her parents Jess and Daisy Pratt, and Marie's husband of 57 years Alfred Holmes. Marie was active in her church serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years and also coordinating the church's bus ministry for several years. Also served with the V.F.W of Moses Lake helping to hand out cookies and coffee at local interstate rest areas.

Eldred H. Sieverkropp, age 81, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, in Moses Lake. He was born March 25, 1926, to Herman and Millie (Arlt) Sieverkropp in Puyallup, Wash. The oldest of six siblings, he spent his youth working on a berry farm in Puyallup. The family moved to a farm outside Odessa in the early 1940s. He graduated from Odessa High School and spent two years at a trade school in Spokane.

Lisa Ann Grove Bilodeau, 52, a lifelong resident of the Soap Lake and Ephrata areas, passed away on Dec. 12, 2007. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. Lisa was born to Charles Turner Grove (deceased) and Virginia (Juday) Grove in Soap Lake on Feb. 22, 1955. She graduated from Ephrata High School in 1973. Following high school, Lisa traveled to Florida (which she dearly loved) and Arizona. She became a dental assistant before marrying her high school sweetheart, Les Bilodeau, in 1979. Before attending college and starting a family, she traveled to Michigan where she became a therapeutic horseback riding instructor for handicapped children. Lisa and Les started their family in 1985 with son Keyton and son Jadon followed in 1988. Lisa and Les divorced in 1992 and remained good friends and co-parents.

Ardith L. Horak passed away on Dec. 8, 2007. She traveled from Iowa by train with her family to the northwest while in her teens, where she met and married her first husband Nate Sherman. Having lived in various places throughout the west she and Nate finally settled in Moses Lake. Ardith was a homemaker, helped Nate in his various businesses and took on many varied lines of work herself including driving a school bus and helping in their construction business. Nate preceded Ardy in death in 1960.

He was preceded in death by his parents William J. and Ethel Hunt, wife Velma Hunt in 1974, and wife Olga Hunt in 2006. He is survived by one daughter Nancy (Hunt) Patterson and stepchildren, Ed Field, Spokane, Bob Field, Moses Lake, Roger and wife Pam Field, Moses Lake, Elmer and Wife Necia Field, DeBorgia, Mont., Kathy and husband Daryl Felts, Post Falls, Idaho, Sandy Field, Pasco, Diane Jones, Hagerton, Md., numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-children. He retired from being a United States Postal Service worker in Pasco. He was a WW II decorated veteran. He was past president of the Eagles Lodge, Moses Lake and a lifetime member of the VFW Club, Moses Lake. He enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. He will be missed. Franklin Dean Hubbard
Franklin Dean Hubbard, 73, was born near Lineville, Iowa on Aug. 17, 1934, and entered into Heaven on Nov. 29, 2007, at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. He was the son of Gerald (Pete) and Arlene Hubbard. He graduated from Leon High School in 1952. He joined the Air Force the same year, serving in the U.S. and France. After the loss of his father in 1954, he returned home to help his mother on the family farm. He and his mother, in 1955, moved to Washington to be closer to his brother, Ross, and his wife, Bonnie.

JoAnn Denise Mahaney, 46, a Moses Lake resident, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in Quincy, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moses Lake, with Pastor David Daugs officiating. Franklin E. Rowley, 73, went to be with his loving wife on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007. He was born in Yakima, Oct. 4t, 1934, to Mr. and Mrs. Leland Rowley. At an early age Frank joined the Navy and enjoyed a long 20-year career serving his country and traveling the globe. He married Carol Woods, during his career with the Navy and took on the role as father to Carol's six children. He retired from the Navy in 1970 with full honors, the same year he and Carol had their youngest son.

Norma Thayer Reed
Norma Thayer Reed, 84, died peacefully at home in Moses Lake on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007. Norma was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Choctaw, Okla., to Edwin and Julia McWilliams Thayer. Norma retired after 26 dedicated years as a secretary from McDonnell Douglas. She served as Royal Matron of Charity Court, Order of the Amaranth in the year of 1968 through 1969. She was a member of the Crossroads Community Bible Church of Mannford, Okla. She had a passion for genealogy and spent over 40 years researching her family. She is the beloved mother of two daughters and one son. Norma is survived by her two daughters, Jackie (James) Piper, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Shari (Charlie) Laibl, of Moses Lake, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James Dotson and her husband Cecil Eugene Reed. Burial was held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mannford, Okla. Arrangements in care of Affordable Funeral Options, Moses Lake.
