Columbia Basin well represented on AP All-State football team
SEATTLE (AP) - The Associated Press on Wednesday announced the Washington All-State football team for each classification as voted on by a panel of state sports writers and editors.
The Columbia Basin had several players named to the list, including Moses Lake High School senior offensive lineman Tad Harman, who was also named to the Seattle Times' 4A All-State team on Tuesday.
Harman's teammate, senior wide receiver Ryan Coulston, was an honorable mention selection to the 4A squad. Coulston led the Columbia Basin League with 55 receptions and 806 yards.
At the 2A level, Othello senior running back James Valdez was an honorable mention pick. Valdez was the Central Washington Athletic Conference's leading rusher, going for 1,320 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns while averaging 8.5 yards per carry.
The 1A state champion Royal Knights earned six spots on their classification's first team - tailback Hector Ledezma, wide receiver Zach Lewis, offensive lineman Luke Carter, defensive back Colt Brown, and linebackers Jacob Christensen and Dexter Allred.
The Odessa Tigers and Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors, this year's 1B state finalists, also had several selections.
ACH running back Jordan Hughes, offensive lineman Caden Grenier, defensive lineman Reid Ashley and linebacker Josh Goodwin were first-team selections, as were Odessa linebacker Travis Todd and defensive back Jacob Schmidt.
Goodwin was an honorable mention choice at quarterback, as was Todd at wide receiver, Schmidt at running back and Ashley at offensive lineman. Odessa's Andy Read made honorable mention at both offensive and defensive line.
O'Dea senior running back Johri Fogerson was named the state's Player of the Year for all classifications.
