Boys basketball recaps

EPHRATA - Daniel Simon led three double-digit scorers, tallying 17 points as Ephrata ran away from visiting Lake Roosevelt on Friday night for a 76-48 non-league boys basketball win.

A highly anticipated season for the Tigers under fourth-year head coach Brandon Evenson started slowly, as the Raiders led 16-13 after one period. But Ephrata went on a 26-9 run in the second quarter to lead 39-25 at halftime, then put the win on ice with 23-11 spurt in the fourth quarter. Evenson credited Ephrata's conditioning for their late surge.

Ryan Lutz and Ross Buchert each scored 15 points for the Tigers.

A night later, Ephrata hit the road for an 88-30 shellacking of the Cashmere Bulldogs. Ephrata led 47-15 at halftime and didn't stop scoring until the final horn.

Patrick Simon had a game-high 22 points for the Tigers, with Daniel Simon scoring 21, Lutz adding 11 and Kory Frank adding nine.

Ephrata opens Central Washington Athletic Conference action on Friday at perennial power Grandview. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
