Cougars hold off Kittitas to win as hosts

WARDEN - Five Warden High School wrestlers captured first place in their respective weight classes, leading the host Cougars to a team championship at Saturday's Warden Tournament.

Warden's Carlos Gomez (103 pounds), Frank Jimenez (112), Lupe Landeros (140), Kevin Tursio (145) and Scott Phillips (160) all placed first in their respective divisions, helping the Cougars score 231 points and fend off second-place Kittitas (226.5).

Moses Lake sent a number of junior varsity wrestlers to the event and placed third with 114 points. The Chiefs' lone winner was 135-pounder Kameron Chlarson.

Lind-Ritzville also participated on Saturday, though the Broncos managed just 15 team points and placed last in the eight-team standings. Lind-Ritzville's highest individual placer was 130-pounder Nolan Miller, who took fourth.
