MOSES LAKE - Consider the Moses Lake Chiefs ready for the defense of their first-place standing in the Central Washington League girls bowling standings.

The Chiefs passed their latest test on Tuesday with flying colors, obliterating the Wenatchee Panthers at Lake Bowl by 428 total pins. While Moses Lake head coach Billy Brice felt his girls have some work to do in Baker games, their scratch games were nothing short of spectacular.

Led by Michelle Reynolds' 212 in game one and a 232 from first-time varsity player Amber Reynolds in game two, the Chiefs cleared the 900-pin mark in both halves of the scratch series.

"It's hard to remember when a team shot two 900 series back to back," Brice said.

Moses Lake won the first game 918-672 with Sandy Smith at 209, Virginia Valdez at 179, Amanda Strezlczyk at 162 and Shanice Brice at 156.

In game two, senior Amber Reynolds was the big story with her phenomenal 232 performance. Brice hit 200, with Michelle Reynolds at 177, Valdez at 151 and Smith at 147 for a total of 907.

Michelle Reynolds rolled two strikes in the 10th frame as the Chiefs eked out a 147-140 win to open the Baker series, effectively sewing up the team victory. They closed out the sweep with a 153-137 win in game two.

"We're still working hard," Brice said. "The girls got down a little bit and I really believe something good's about to happen with this team."

The Chiefs travel to Yakima's Nob Hill Lanes on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., facing the Eisenhower Cadets in another battle for first place. The Cadets (9-1) lost at Lake Bowl in the teams' last meeting, and Brice expects another hard-fought match.

"That's going to be a big match because we're only like 10 pins ahead of them on our team average," he said. "I think we're ready."
