Electrical coil burned

MOSES LAKE - A Moses Lake electrolytic foil company is investigating the cause of an electrical fire that started early Thursday morning.

About 20 firefighters with Grant County Fire District No. 5 and the Port of Moses Lake were called at 2 a.m. to Chemi-Con Corp. on Graham Street.

An electrical fire was found in a large, high-voltage coil. The fire burned up the coil and sent smoke through the building, said Rick Wentworth, battalion chief with Grant County Fire District No. 5.

The damage was confined to the coil, which was on the second floor of the building, Wentworth said.

An electrician was called to open the box the coil was in, Wentworth said.

Firefighters left about three hours later.

Celaine Luckey, administration manager with Chemi-Con, said the company doesn't know what happened but planned to meet with Grant County PUD on Thursday.

Chemi-Con makes electrolytic foil, which is used for capacitors.
