Construction progressing quickly

MOSES LAKE - Two new barns at the Grant County Fairgrounds are nearly complete with another on the way.

"Every day it gets closer," said Terese Schrom, fairgrounds facilities coordinator.

Each of the two new barns will have a total of 56 stalls.

The goal is to have the two Barnmaster barns finished by Christmas, she said.

"Our other barn, the barn that's a companion to our existing barn (number) 47, we're expecting that that's going to be another month or so," she said.

Schrom said the barns go together in a way where the stalls create the structure, so they built two rows at the same time, she said.

Each row of stalls is 10 stalls long and two rows are built back-to-back. Schrom said crews work on the block of 20 stalls, then a walkway is built to separate it from another block of 20 stalls. Then another block will be built with four stalls used for non-animal purposes.

Schrom said it's fascinating to watch the construction progress.

Studs for the walls are being erected for the 4-H building. Fairgrounds management hopes the structure is completed in time for the Spring Fair/Home Show, running from March 28 to March 30, Schrom said.

The architectural firm working on the structures is DOH Associates, of Wenatchee, and building materials are from Barnmaster. Construction is by Halme Builders Inc.
