The corn market slipped Thursday night, then moved lower in response to news that the International Grain Council had boosted its global production forecast 4.0 million tonnes to 973 million. Nearby futures also seem to fail at technical resistance. September corn ended the week 2.75 cents lower at $3.59/bushel, while December dropped 4.5 to $3.6475.

A team that can pull it off
While interviewing our candidates for election this year, I posed a question relating to public lands. Of the candidates interviewed and advancing to the General Election in November, only Clint Didier and Dani Bolyard proposed a solution by which the lands under Federal ownership would be returned to the States for management of the resources and are familiar with American Lands Council, mentioning them by name. The mission is this: "The American Lands Council channels the cooperative efforts of state and local governments, businesses, organizations, and individuals to secure and defend local control of land access, land use, and land ownership through:

Common Core Standards must go!
Common Core is the name of the top-down Federal Government set of education "standards" that has been kind of snuck in under the radar with promises of "rigorous standards" and "free money" from our great benefactor, Uncle Sam. It has often been touted as having been adopted at the local level. It is disingenuous, however, to state that Common Core was adopted at the local level. Though states individually accepted the Common Core "Standards", it was done through coercion via promises of Federal money. Fortunately, five states including Texas never did accept Common Core and many others are looking at getting out. To date, 10 additional states have repealed their acceptance and 9 others have legislation pending to do the same including Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Recently, Mississippi Governor, Bobby Jindahl issued an executive order to get rid of Common Core. It was big, rich, liberal money especially from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other like-minded people who always seem to know better what is good for the "unwashed masses" who supported and encouraged it in the first place (Don't forget that). Like the so-called "affordable Health Care Act", Common Core standards were accepted before anyone had a chance to read the entire program! Surely, we all remember the former Speaker of the House of Representatives telling the nation that we had to pass the health care bill "so we could find out what's in it"! Once we did, the whole thing blew up in everyone's faces. The same is true of Common Core. Initially, no one knew about the mining of data that would be a part of Common Core or the revisionist history or absurd math that would also be results of the new "standards". Arnie Duncan and the Federal Department of Education were the ones making promises of free federal money if Common Core was accepted. Excuse me, but has anyone read the US Constitution lately and especially article I, section 8 wherein are listed the 20 "enumerated" powers of the federal government. Providing for or overseeing education is not one of them. While you're at it, read the 10th Amendment (Bill-of-rights) of the Constitution wherein is written, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively or to the people."

Livestock futures outperformed the crop markets Tuesday morning
Monday’s progress report is weighing on the crop markets. The weekly USDA Crop Progress report raised the latest rating for the U.S. corn crop 1%, which made it the second-highest mid-August reading since 1994. The fact that traders were already anticipating a huge harvest doesn’t seem to be limiting the bearish reaction occurring today. September corn slumped 6.0 cents to $3.54/bushel late Tuesday morning, while December lost 5.0 to $3.625.

Our duty as voters
It is our duty to be well-educated voters! Public education no longer teaches the thinking of the men who wrote the United States Constitution, nor the changes in the language over more than 200 years. Schools do not teach morality, respect for other people, or even self respect!

People should get involved in animal welfare
I recently visited a local fair and stopped by an exhibit where they had several wild animals. They were in small cages totally enclosed other than a wire top where a fan was placed. On this day the temperature was about 100 degrees, and the animals were obviously miserable, and likely in distress. There was no room for them to move around, and I observed one with wood chips in a bowl, but no water. I was very upset to observe what I consider animal cruelty, but even more upset at the disconcern of people who observe this and choose not be responsible or involved. I wonder how we as humans would feel if we were locked up in a small cage unable to move around or walk for hours, days, and possibly weeks at a time.

I have suffered from recurring neck pain that radiates into my back for many years. Dr. Jones has managed to get the injury under control to the point I am able to return to exercising and lifting items I would not have thought about six months ago. And all this took only a month. It's so great not having the constant headaches and neck and shoulder pain. The most important part of this return to good health comes from a doctor who listens to your problem and takes action to repair it. To be headache, neck ache and backache free is wonderful. I would recommend Dr. Jones to anyone. He is a very caring and understanding doctor and so down-to-earth. The office personnel are the best.
Mrs. Sharon Grandpre
We moved to Moses Lake, WA, March, 2006 from Fair Oaks, CA. I had been taking treatments for 13 years every one to two weeks under a chiropractor's care in Rosemill, CA. I hadn't got in touch with Dr. Gregg until 6 months later here in Moses Lake. My lower back was bothering me. After four or five treatments it feels great!! I really recommend him highly. Thank you, Dr. Gregg, for relieving my lower back pain and subluxations in my neck.
Erich VonGrey
When I began treatments at HealthSource I was having trouble sleeping, working, sitting, standing, and getting in and out of my work vehicle because of the pain my low back, leg and neck. Dr. Jones suggested I be treated with spinal decompression, spinal adjustments, and physical therapy. With the staff in the therapy room I was walking and working much better. I always had a lot of fun in the therapy room. I looked forward to going because I always felt better when I left. HealthSource was always good about working around my work schedule. I would definitely recommend HealthSouce to my family and friends.
Darcy Johnson
When I was referred to Dr. Jones, I was in severe pain and my left leg was numb. He immediately got me an MRI and discovered I had a herniated disk. Dr. Jones sat down with my husband and I and explained my recovery options. This allowed us to make a well informed decision and build a comprehensive recovery plan involving my family. The next day Dr. Jones had me on the decompression unit and by the end of the week I was already feeling less pain. After only twenty treatments, accompanied with physical therapy, I am back to walking gardening, and having no pain.
Shirley Miner
For the last two years I wondered if I would ever live without constant pain in my lower back and numbness/tingling/pain in my leg. Physical therapy and epidural injections were not successful. My remaining options were pain medications and/or back surgery. However, after five weeks of decompression therapy my symptoms are so greatly reduced they no longer impact my quality of life in a negative way. I am able to sleep comfortably through the night, have resumed walking one plus miles per day and can now keep up with my 18 month old twin grandsons!
Judy Adair
Before going to HealthSource I had a numbing, aching, burning feeling in my lower back and I could not move freely. I could not walk, stand, or work for long periods of time without feeling that awful lower back pain. I went to my doctor and he prescribed ibuprofen and muscle relaxants. They would only cover the pain for a short time. After receiving chiropractic adjustments and doing the progressive rehab that Dr. Jones prescribed I can move more freely without pain. I no longer need the ibuprofen or muscle relaxants, instead I take the vitamins Dr. Jones prescribed. I have shared with my friends how great I feel after seeing Dr. Jones and how helpful the staff has been in assisting me during my visits.
Kathy Isaak
Before coming to HealthSouce I had a lot of pain in my left arm and it would go numb. I could not sit, sleep, or stand for very long. I tried ice packs, ibuprofen, my hot tub, and hot showers. Nothing worked for any length of time. Now that I have been to HealthSource there is no pain. I did just what Dr. Jones said to do. I exercised three times a day, everyday. Now I can golf, fish, and do housework with no pain. It takes two, the doctor and you to make it work. If you do just what they tell you to do you will feel great. I would recommend HealthSource to anyone because it works.
Christine Reuter
I bought a Star Treatment Coupon from my nephew as a fund raiser for his baseball team. It entitled me to a 20 minute stress massage. All of the proceeds went to help my nephew's baseball team. The massage therapist was amazing and I left ten times more relaxed than when I came in. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and serves the patients so they want to come back again and again. HealthSource is a very family friendly clinic that I would recommend to my friends and family.
David Alvarado
I would like to thank HealthSource. When I began treatment in February 2008 I had headaches and neck and back pain. After attending your office three times weekly for a month, as recommended, my health has had a huge improvement. Now I no longer get headaches or have neck pain like I once did. My wife and I would like to thank you for all the hard work that you, Dr. Jones, and your staff has done for me.
Heather Tuerk
I had just spent 2 weeks in the hospital for headaches when they told me they couldn't help me. I came to HealthSource crippled with pain. Dr. Jones and his staff said they could help; and they did! They have my hope and my life back! My family and I are so thankful. Thank you HealthSource for a headache free life!
Norma Geer
For the first time in 4 years I stood in the kitchen and cooked for 2 1/2 hours. When I was done for the first time NO PAIN! I almost cried. For the first time in 4 years I see a future without pain.

Genomic prediction, a new field of quantitative genetics, is a statistical approach to predicting the value of an economically important trait in a plant, such as yield or disease resistance. Ag markets diverged somewhat Thursday morning
The export data boosted corn futures Thursday morning. The ag industry is clearly expected huge fall corn production, but traders sometimes forget that demand is also quite strong. They were reminded of that fact by the weekly USDA Export Sales report, which stated corn commitments above industry forecasts. That’s a big reason for subsequent gains. September corn bounced 2.25 cents to $3.6025/bushel around midsession Thursday, while December gained 2.0 to $3.7175.

Ag markets ended Wednesday in decidedly mixed fashion
Corn futures posted a late-Wednesday comeback. Tuesday’s USDA reports implied record U.S. corn yield and harvest totals this fall, which weighed on CBOT futures Tuesday and again Wednesday. September corn closed 0.5 cent lower at $3.58/bushel Wednesday, while December gained 0.75 to $3.6975.

Corn futures resumed their post-report decline Wednesday morning. Tuesday’s USDA reports implied record U.S. corn yield and harvest totals this fall. Ag markets posted divergent closes Monday
Corn futures edged higher to start the week. Talk of poor growing conditions and a likely improvement in Chinese demand seemed to boost the corn and bean markets to start the week. Short covering prior to tomorrow’s big USDA reports probably supported prices as well. September corn closed 5.0 cents higher at $3.5675/bushel Monday, while December gained 4.75 at $3.6825.
Crop futures are mixed Monday, while livestock prices are down
Corn futures edged higher to start the week. Talk of poor growing conditions and a likely improvement in Chinese demand seemed to boost the corn and bean markets to start the week. However, unlike beans, this morning’s Export Inspections report probably disappointed corn traders. September corn gained 3.25 cents to $3.55/bushel late Monday morning, while December moved up 2.75 at $3.6625.

Fishin' Magician - Dave Graybill
Eric Granstrom and I jumped on board Rollie Schmitten's boat on Monday morning and shot a new video on sockeye fishing at Lake Wenatchee. Conditions were ideal for shooting and Granstrom has already posted the new show. You can watch it by going to my FishingMagician.com Facebook page, too. Windy conditions hampered fishing mid week, but it should settle down soon. There are still a huge number, a record number in fact, of sockeye to catch on the lake. Anglers are also catching very good numbers of sockeye at Brewster. The run has pretty much ended at Bonneville but these fish are still coming over Rocky Reach and Wells Dam. I hope you got the note that summer run salmon fishing is open on the Wenatchee and a short stretch of the Chelan River. These openings are a month earlier than last year. The small streams in our area have finally dropped into fishing shape and this is the time to grab your 3 weight rod and hit the Icicle, Entiat, White and other small streams. I am going to get back out after sockeye with trips planned to the Brewster Pool and Lake Wenatchee. Fishing should also be good below Wells Dam.

Crappie action has been really great from the Lind Coulee arm of Potholes Reservoir as well as the MarDon Dock.

Reader shows support for Garth Dano's candidacy
Grant County voters have a compelling role in the functions of the law and enhancing Grant County government. Choosing who shall serve in the Office of the Grant County Prosecutor requires discretion and discernment. Having experience in the law and leadership are important considerations. Concepts of protection, justice, and freedom are critical considerations. However, every voter and citizen should recognize that the ultimate power of our legal system belongs to the people. Our jury system - being judged by our peers - provides no greater evidence of this essential value in the American legal system. A prosecutor should always remember that they are subject to the power of and the rights of the citizen, the common man. Garth Dano understands and has practiced law with this fundamental truth.

Ag markets ended the week in mixed fashion
Corn futures remained under pressure Friday. Prospects for a huge fall crop rather obviously weighed upon corn prices again today, especially with Corn Belt rainfall now forecast for the next two weeks. The fact that nearby futures failed at their 10-day moving averages this week probably exaggerated CBOT selling. USDA announces farm bill supplemental crop coverage
As stipulated through the 2014 Farm Bill, farmers and ranchers will receive new crop insurance options that will strengthen and expand insurance coverage.
Ag turned decidedly mixed Friday morning
Corn futures remained under pressure Friday morning. Prospects for a huge fall crop are apparently weighing upon corn prices again today, especially with Corn Belt rainfall now forecast for the next two weeks. The fact that nearby futures failed at their 10-day moving averages this week is probably exaggerating current selling. September corn slid 1.25 cents to $3.5575/bushel late Friday morning, while December lost 1.5 cents to $3.655.

Vote for Tom Dent for state representative
Like many other Columbia Basin people, my family moved here in the 1950s, taking advantage of the new irrigation system and the great farming opportunities. In our case, it was 1959. Growing up in the Columbia Basin was a great experience.
Production of Genie lift begins in Moses Lake
MOSES LAKE - Grant County can add manufacturing the world's tallest self-propelled boom lift to its resume.
Conservative
What should define "conservative" with respect to government? I consider knowledge of the principles that underlay the original US Constitution and first twelve amendments as most important. The Federal government should be small, concerned with defense, maintaining cooperation between the States, and foreign countries. The Seventeenth Amendment should be removed, and State legislatures should be able to dismiss Senators who don't represent their State's government.
Garth Dano for county prosecutor
Not too often do we feel compelled to write a "Letter to the Editor" but we felt the need to respond to the recent full page ad placed by Mr. Angus Lee in the Columbia Basin Herald.
Brent Bishop has the time to devote to PCO position
It has been said that the precinct committee officer is the most important political officer in the entire field of politics. However, it's not a well-known political office. Some of the voters have no idea what a PCO is. In a nutshell, his/her job is to help the voters in his/her precinct to learn the issues and know the candidates. They also communicate with the voters with the goal in mind to take their comments, concerns, and ideas to the Central Committee.
Grant County vets still have no home
MOSES LAKE - A disagreement between a veterans' advocate and county officials is leaving Grant County vets with limited options for getting emergency food and shelter, counseling and help filling out benefit paperwork.
Property owners have rights during the political season
If you've driven through Moses Lake or your community lately, it's likely you've seen the plethora of political signs reminding people to vote for a certain candidate.
Soap Lake man accused of helping escaped inmate
Allegedly gave escapee a ride from Soap Lake to Moses Lake
EPHRATA - A Soap Lake man is facing charges after allegedly giving Sunday's escaped inmate a ride to Moses Lake.
Swimming at public parks
Recently in the CBH police reports it came to my attention that some people were cited for swimming at Cascade Park. That's right, swimming! I thought that was odd until I remembered; swimming is not allowed at Cascade Park! You can do almost any water activity at this public park except swim. The old swimming area had been converted to docking for boats and etc. I had spoken to Spencer Griggs at the park and rec. dept for Moses Lake summer of 2013 and was told that City of Moses Lake deemed it was unsafe to swim there because there is no longer a specific swimming area! If you think that our parks should be available to everyone, call up Spencer and let him know. I also believe you cannot legally swim at Montlake Park.
Shot fired at Larson Housing area home
MOSES LAKE - Nobody was injured after at least one shot was fired into a home in the Larson Housing area late Tuesday night.
Hands-off attitudes cause economic and environmental damage
Today's news is filled with images of the massive wildfires roaring through the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in central Washington.
Garth Dano, a man who cares
My name is Diane Upky. I am writing this letter to the editor to endorse and support Garth Dano for Prosecutor. Mr. Dano was our family's attorney about three (3) years ago when my son and his friend nearly died as the result of a car accident caused by a drunk driver. Both young men have sustained life altering injuries and had medical expenses exceeding $1 million.
Angus Lee works well with law enforcement
In reading the Columbia Basin Daily Herald, or listening to the news on the radio, I've noticed something. There has been a sharp increase in prosecutions of gang members, drug abusers, thieves, and those "low-lifes" who harm our beautiful children. Plus many others. It can also be noted, that Tom Jones and other members of law enforcement are working hand-in-hand with the Prosecutor's Office.
Good precinct committee officers are vital
In response to the letter of July 21, 2014 regarding Grant County precinct committee officers.
The point of our previous letter may have been missed
The point of our letter and endorsement for Brent Bishop and Barbara Morgan in last weeks Herald may have been missed. It was not about their opposition or what they did or didn't do. It was about what Bishop and Morgan promise to do, want to do and what we believe they will do.
A special thanks
Since October of 2013 Columbia Basin School Retirees' Association (CBSRA) have been bringing board books to Samaritan Hospital to be passed out to each new baby. It is our wish that in so doing parents will be encouraged to read to their new infant. Reading to your baby from the beginning is encouraged by pediatricians and educators alike. Thank you to Moses Lake Lions Club, Moses Lake Kiwanis , Moses Lake Lioness and our own members and organization for contributions to make this happen!
Vote for Angus Lee
Sometimes we just get it wrong. I do anyway. I let myself get talked into being on a campaign committee to elect a guy I didn't know, to be elected Grant County prosecutor. I thought our opposing candidate was too young, too inexperienced to be qualified for the job. As things turned out, my guy lost and the guy I'd been convinced was under qualified won. He went on to prove himself not just capable but forward thinking, highly motivated and the best prosecutor Grant County has had in years. I was very wrong to dismiss him as too young to be qualified for the leadership position.
Ephrata Proposition 1
I encourage everyone to vote yes on Ephrata Proposition 1.
Confusion abounds concerning hunts
There were public comment periods, where hunters could submit written remarks about changes in hunting rules. There were meetings open to the public where hunters could comment in person in front of the Washington State Fish and Wildlife Commission.
Letter of support for Laure Grammer for Grant County Assessor
I have been involved with Grant County Politics for several years. In that time, one of the people I've come to know and work with has been Laure Grammer. I have known her to be hard working, dedicated and diligent. Additionally, she is one of the most congenial people I've met since moving to Coulee City in 1999. I support her for reelection to the position of Grant County Assessor. I believe that she tries to treat all property owners fairly in her position. Certainly, if a large business is allowed to have a "sweet deal" on their assessment, then we all must pay. So, I say vote for Laure.
Propaganda techniques
I thank the newspaper for its public service in running the ad paid for by Friends of Angus in last Friday's edition (July 25). Besides insuring First Amendment rights and doing business, the newspaper keeps the public informed about propaganda techniques used to influence voters in an election year.
Ageism expressed in previous letter regarding PCOs
This letter is in response to the letter from Ann Mix & Dave Bolton titled The Race for PCOS. In the letter from the July 24th edition of the Columbia Basin Herald stating their endorsement for Brent Bishop, Wheeler 1 precinct, and Barbara Morgan, Moses Lake 7 precinct, as Precinct Committee Officers it insinuates that the current PCOs are not doing their job "because they are busy with businesses and families." They encourage you to vote for a candidate that is retired instead. Let me assure you that the current PCOs in those precincts are both highly involved and dependable members of the Grant County Republican Party. They show up to every executive board meeting, every state party meeting, and participate in special committees such as event committees, candidate committees, etc. They are both committed to the Republican Party Platform, and holding our elected officials accountable to that platform and the Constitution of the United States of America.
Don't complain, get out and vote.
It's time to elect someone from the Columbia Basin that has shown he is dedicated to the property rights, and individual rights based upon our constitution. I believe that is Tom Dent. I have known Tom since 1985. He is a honest businessmen, father, husband, and friend. He has dedicated numerous years to our political system, in helping others and the interests of the Columbia Basin. He has support from both parties, which will help us in making sure the interests of the 13th District are maintained. Please join me in voting for Tom Dent to secure our future.
