| August 20, 2014 6:00 AM

Alice Virginia Hanson Herold was born in Boise, Idaho, January 3rd, 1923 to Seymour and Virginia Hanson. She passed away August 16th at Guardian Angel Homes in Richland, WA. Alice never met a stranger, she would talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything. She counted many of her children's friends as part of the family.

Alice's family farmed and ranched in Jerusalem (near Horse Shoe Bend) and Bear Valley, Idaho. Alice graduated from Boise High School in 1940 and always valued education. She married John J Herold on July 1, 1942 in Boise, Idaho. They lived and farmed in the Horse Shoe Bend area. They moved to Garden Valley, Idaho for four years. They then moved to Hiawatha Valley near Moses Lake, WA in 1950 and later built a dairy farm. Alice was a 4H leader in Washington and Idaho for 30 years. They moved back to Idaho in 1972 and lived in Sweet, Idaho.

John died in 1982 and Alice stayed on the farm with daughter Judith until they moved to Pasco in 1995. Alice's passion was making quilts, she made many for family, friends and the Emmett Girl's home. Her family and friends will always treasure the special hand quilted creations she made for the birth of a baby, graduations and weddings.

Alice is preceded in death by parents Seymour and Virginia Hanson, her two brothers William and Lewis, sister Mary, infant son John Seymour and granddaughter Christine Lee.

She is survived by brother, John (Gwen) of Salt Lake City, UT, her daughters, Helen (John) Preston of Warden, WA, Susan (Mike) Lee of Arden, NC, Judith of Pasco, Marjorie (Paul) Worden of Pasco, Dorothy (Richard) Luedke of Dixon, CA, Janice (Rodney) Dennis of Lind, WA and sons Thomas (Penny) of Emmett, ID, Daniel (Robin) of Ritter, OR; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen greatgrandchildren.
