EPHRATA - A Moses Lake man was sentenced to six months in jail for ramming a Moses Lake police officer with his car during a confrontation in April.

Benedicto Cordoba Rojas, 38, pled guilty to drunk driving and assault with a deadly weapon charges in a plea deal with prosecutors last week.

According to the police report, MLPD officers were called to a home on Crouse Street about a possible fight. The dispatcher told police that suspects were attempting to leave the residence in two cars, according to the police report.

When officers arrived at the location, they found two cars with occupants, one in the back and one in the front of the residence. While one officer was talking to a woman in the passenger seat of the car in the front, another officer went to check on the car in the back.

When the officer got to the back of the residence the car was moving toward him. He told the driver to stop but he did not and collided with the officer's leg and hip.

After hitting the officer the car stopped and the officer was able to wrestle the man out of the car, while the man was still reaching for the gear shift, according to the police report. The car then rolled over the officer's foot, but he reported he was not injured.
