Help Basin youth get ready for school

| August 8, 2014 6:00 AM

With school nearing, there are plenty of opportunities to help local kids prepare for school. At this time, there are at least two local efforts worthy of mention. On Aug. 23, Serve Moses Lake is holding a "Back-2-School" event at Endeavor Middle School in Moses Lake. Student haircuts, some school supplies and clothing will be offered, according to an email from Tim Cloyd, Serve's director.

If you're not able to donate financially, a donation of your time and talents would be appreciated. Licensed hair stylists, help with kids' activities, registration, cleaning, set-up, clothing sorting and distribution assistants are needed. To sign-up to volunteer, please email tim@servemoseslake.org or call Serve's office at 509-764-8276.

For the who would rather donate items, a variety of school supplies are needed. They include secondary student school supplies of college rule spiral notebooks, college rule loose leaf paper, No. 2 pencils, glue sticks, erasers, pocket folders, hi-lighters, pens (blue, black and red) and stretchable book covers, gently used or new children's books for students of all ages, and money for school supplies ($10 will pay for one student's supplies).

For donation drop-off, visit Serve's office at 422 Third Ave., Moses Lake. Office hours are 9 a.m. noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Northland Communications in Moses Lake is providing new customers a chance to donation part of their installation fee for school supplies.

For more information, call 509-765-6151 or visit the Northland Cable office nearest you.

Thank you to all the local groups and individuals who are helping local students.

If there's more back-to-school efforts you would like to see in the paper, please email editor@columbiabasinherald.com, or call 509-765-4561, ex. 131. We would love to help Basin students have a great school experience.
