Desert Dogs ousted by San Gabriel Valley at WS

EPHRATA - Postponed a day due to inclement weather, a perfect storm of defensive miscues by the Desert Dogs and explosive offense by San Gabriel Valley ended the younger Columbia Basin squad's Senior Babe Ruth World Series run in the quarterfinals.
After leading 2-1 through four and a half innings, the Desert Dogs gave up 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth to San Gabriel Valley and fell 12-2.
It was a remarkable run for the Desert Dogs as the team is comprised of much younger players than the host River Dogs and the visiting teams from across the nation.
Jess Ward gave the Dogs an early 1-0 lead after hitting a lead off home run.
However, San Gabriel Valley quickly knotted the score at 1-1 in the home half of the first when Kevin Amersquita scored on an error.
Once again, the Desert Dogs took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third when an Austin Murdock single scored Spencer Vela.
Desert Dog starter Jacob Lawson cruised through the first four innings, allowing just one run.
But in the bottom of the fifth everything changed.
San Gabriel Valley exploded for 11 runs on eight hits, capitalizing on two Desert Dog errors.
