Grant County Prosecutor
Reader supports Angus Lee
I have read most of the “letters to the editor” during the past several weeks; referring unto the Grant County Prosecutor position, pro and con. I much agree with the letters of Monica Hudson and former Grant County commissioners, of many terms, Leroy Allison, in the Columbia Basin Herald of Oct. 22, 2009. Also, I agree with Bonnie Schroeder and Grant County Republican Party, Precinct Committee Officer, (P.C.O.), Phil Anderson of their, Letter to the Editor, in the Quincy Post Register; of the same date. There are many other letters, from earlier dates, that I agree with unto endorsement for Prosecutor D. Angus Lee.
Grant County Prosecutor
Reader supports Angus Lee
I am writing this letter to show my support of Angus Lee. In all of my conversations with him I have been extremely impressed with his personal character and his core values. There seems to be a great deal of mud slinging in the papers regarding Angus. I am not here to validate or deny any of conflicts in the papers. I am here to support a man that has given a portion of his life to fight (literally) for the freedoms of other people. My deepest thanks to a man of his caliber to serve our country. Having lived in a foreign country for a few years I learned the value of our freedoms and the importance of law and order. I believe his time spent overseas has also given him a better perspective of the importance of a properly functioning justice system. I also feel his leadership role in the military has prepared him for this job. I looked at the qualifications of the other candidate and did not find that kind of training in his past, or any similar training to be a manager. I believe the track record we see of this past year is merely a small glimpse of the kind of performance we will see from him in the future.

City official discusses stormwater issues
GUEST EDITORIAL
Recently there has been some controversy and confusion surrounding stormwater issues in Moses Lake. Since the amendment of the Clean Water Act in 1987, stormwater has gained attention as one of the leading pollutants of surface water bodies in the United States. The EPA, under the federally mandates National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), issued a municipal stormwater permit to Moses Lake in February of 2007. This permit was not based on amount of rainfall, but on the fact that Moses Lake is listed as an “impaired Water of the State” and as a “Water of Statewide Significance.”

I am supporting Kevin Donovan for Position 4 on the Moses Lake School Board. I know Kevin personally and from various settings. In every instance I have found him to be a leader, a team player, and a man of the highest integrity. He has been involved in Moses Lake civic discussions since he came here with his family back in 2001 as the general manager of the local Staples store. His experience in business gives him a bottom-line perspective that is necessary for sustainable growth in the district, all without increasing the tax burden on us.

REFERENDUM 71
Reader opposes legislation
Voting no on referendum 71 is a vote against granting same-sex couples the same rights that husbands and wives now have. Our founding fathers acknowledged God in many of our founding documents, including the Declaration of Independence. It says we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights. Our Creator, God, who gave us these rights also gave us a book of rules to live by, called The Bible. Satan, the devil, deceived Adam and Even in the Garden of Eden, which was most likely in present day Iraq, to disobey God, when He told them not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They ate of the forbidden fruit, and sin came to mankind. In God’s rule book, in 1 Corinthians 6:9, in the New American Standard Bible, it tells us that homosexual will not inherit the kingdom of God. We can’t stop them from living in sin, but we don’t have to put our blessing on their lifestyle by approving of it. MANBLA, the Man-Boy Love Association, is pushing for the “right” of men to make love with boys. Please vote no on Referendum 71. Thank you.

Reader is frustrated with race
I read with amusement and dismay the Monday & Tuesday Herald’s in-depth reporting of The Great Cover-Up of ‘97, regarding a 20 year-old Angus Lee’s frat house shenanigans. Then there is the Great Cover-Up in the Prosecutor’s Officer of ‘08, over a non-incident between Judge Fitterer and a Quincy man, and whether said non-incident was properly referenced by the candidate Angus Lee, or whether it was part some vast conspiracy of judicial favoritism. Interesting side-note: Mr. Lee was not prosecutor at the time of the non-incident, but let us not fret over that detail. There is muck to be raked and mud must be flung, however trivial and in-consequential.

Reader supports Pat Hailey
Please cast your ballot for Pat Hailey in the upcoming ballot election in the 9th Legislative district. I’ve known Pat Hailey for many years, and I think highly of her qualifications and strongly believe that she is the best candidate to represent us in Olympia. Pat’s years as a parent, volunteer, PTA President, registrar and attendance specialist at Connell High School and Robert L. Olds Junior High, and school board member in the North Franklin School District has given her a tremendous background and working knowledge about public education. She knows firsthand how unfunded mandates and cuts in state funding hurt students in our local schools. Her experience and knowledge will be a terrific asset as she works in Olympia. I’m confident that Pat Hailey will use her experience with public education and work to support students and schools as a legislator in Olympia. Please show your support and vote yes for Pat Hailey!

During the years that Bill Ecret has served the City of Moses Lake as councilman, I have spoken with the city council on numerous occasions to discuss potential business or industrial projects, related infrastructure and planning issues. During those many meetings and deliberations, I have always found councilman Bill Ecret to be considerate and understanding. He is also analytical and is straight forward when stating his position. Most of all, I have found him to be a dedicated public servant who wants the best for the citizens of Moses Lake and for this community. He understands the importance of a good economy and he has worked hard to make Moses Lake a business friendly community. He studies the issues makes sound decisions based his knowledge and values which have served this community well. The prosecutor race this year is different, the first under the Cajun or top two candidates system. When John Knodell became a superior court judge, the Grant County Republican Party Precinct Committee Officers selected an interim prosecutor to hold the office until all of the citizens could decide on one to fulfill John Knodell’s office. MOSES LAKE RECYCLING
Reader supports city service proposal
My New Year’s resolution was to start recycling, but it wasn’t until summer I drove to our local recycling center. (Yes, I know I procrastinate). I was told to keep driving all the way to Spokane to get rid of all the plastics. With two teenagers in the house, we run through 3 gallons of milk per week times how many weeks? That’s a lot of plastic. Then there are those bright orange laundry detergent containers, but then I’d have to remember all the wash I do, and that would truly be depressing. For the modest cost of curbside recycling, we could reduce our dependency on foreign oil, and for those more dedicated than myself, save a trip to Spokane to recycle.

I agree with my predecessor, retired Senator Harold Hochstatter, when he says, “Justice is not Partisan.” Justice is defined by Webster in part, “The maintenance or administration of that which is just; also, merited reward or punishment.” Let’s talk about the victim’s and their families when we talk about justice. Let’s elect someone who has a proven track record of convicting criminals who commit violent acts against innocent victims.

MOSES LAKE SIGNS
Reader disagrees with the city
I think the actions of the city in regards to the (prohibition of) signs are wrong and illegal and not the only thing they have done wrong. I think as a city we should stand up and change our government from a city manager to a strong mayor formed government. This gives more power back to the citizens, where the council and mayor have to answer to the citizens more and have less closed door meetings. It is just a idea but I think it would be a positive change and give more responsibility to the city government.
