Tennis players perform at tourney

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Three Moses Lake youth ventured to Kennewick, Wash., Oct. 2 through Oct. 4 to compete in the Columbia Basin Fall Jr. Challenger.

Moses Lake’s Josh Black and Levi Huddleston competed in the boys 16 doubles division and Canon Gregiore competed in the boys 12 doubles and boys 10 singles divisions.

Black and Huddleston overcame a 6-0, 6-0 loss in their first match of the tournament to win their next and improve to 1-1 in round robin play.

Black and Huddleston rolled to a 6-3 victory in the first set against Jacob Lehew and Colton Ruegsegger. Black and Huddleston struggled in the next set, falling 6-2, before rebounding to take the third set and the match 10-4.

After Black and Huddleston improved to 1-1 with the victory in their second match, the duo was forced to withdraw because of an emergency and finished round robin play at 1-2.

In the boys 12 doubles division Gregoire and his partner Sean A. Thompson were impressive. Gregoire and Thompson cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in their first match before falling to doubles champions Corban and Charskie Kinloch.

After the loss to the Kinlochs, Gregoire and Thompson rebounded for a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Colton Hamm and Cam M. Heinrichson to claim second place.

Gregoire lost his first singles match before advancing to the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
