MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Fire Department’s firefighters are cooking ham, eggs, hash browns and pancakes for residents Saturday.

“We enjoy the breakfast because we get to see the community that we serve,” said assistant fire chief Pete Kunjara.

The event is from 5 a.m. to noon at the fire department, located at 701 E. Third Ave.

Cost is $5 per person and $15 per family.

The breakfast is an 18-year tradition for the fire department.

“This is a fund-raising event to help us out with fire prevention training and rescue equipment,” Kunjara said.

It is sponsored by the Moses Lake Volunteer Firefighter Association and International Association of Firefighters Local 2052.

Businesses including Chico’s Pizza, Just Right Cleaning and Construction Inc., Safeway and Food Services of America donated food for the event.

There is an Exit Drill in the Home trailer on display. It is an educational tool to teach kids how to respond to fire and the proper procedures to take to exit a smoke-filled home.

“The kids can come tour fire trucks and look at ambulances,” Kunjara said.

Also featured is a silent auction, consisting of items donated from local businesses.

“The community has been awesome donating stuff this year,” Kunjara said. “There is a lot of good items.”

Items include tools, office chairs, fishing poles, books, cruise trips and gift certificates to restaurants.

“This event is fun and it really helps us out,” Kunjara said.
