MOSES LAKE SCHOOL DISTRICT

| October 22, 2009 9:00 PM

I am a fourth grade teacher at Lakeview Terrace Elementary who worked with Pete Knittle when he was our principal. I know for a fact that Pete’s main goal in running for school board is to ensure the best education for every student in Moses Lake. That was his primary goal as principal at Lakeview as well.

Pete is an innovator. His research into best practices and successful educational programs led Lakeview to higher and higher achievement. The year that Pete retired from his principal position, Lakeview was number one in Moses Lake in WASL scores, with 100% of our fourth graders passing the Reading WASL. It was Pete Knittle’s vision, leadership, and encouragement that inspired the teachers, students, and parents to strive for excellence.

At Lakeview, the staff would sometimes joke about how conservative Pete was with the budget, yet there was always money for those things that mattered most … especially for student achievement and support for teachers.

I am certain that the qualities Pete demonstrated as a principal more than qualify him to be a leader on the school board. He knew that parents are vital to school achievement and encouraged our school to be affiliated with the National PTA. Pete listened to teachers, parents, and students. While he was principal, he held monthly Pride Assemblies. He respected and honored kids.

Pete has a vision for Moses Lake Schools … for example, a way to alleviate the overcrowding at the middle schools and high school. What’s more, he has the connections that will greatly benefit Moses Lake School District.

Does Moses Lake want excellent schools? We need the candidate who has been involved in education in Washington state for over 30 years, on our school board. So that is why I am completely confident that Pete Knittle is the wisest choice.
