Five Chiefs move on to regionals

WENATCHEE, Wash. — The Moses Lake Chiefs returned from the Columbia Basin Big Nine district cross country meet in Walla Walla Point Park in Wenatchee, Wash., Thursday afternoon with five runners advancing to next week’s regional meet.

The regional meet will take place Friday, Oct. 30 at Wandermere Golf Course in Spokane, Wash., and three members of the Chiefs girls cross country team and a pair from the boys cross country team will make the trip east.

Moses Lake freshman Hannah Marsh wrapped up Moses Lake’s best performance on the girls side, finishing the three-mile course in 19:40 to finish in 22nd place. Marsh wasn’t the only freshman to punch her ticket to next week’s regional meet, freshman Julia Sheremet finished 45th with a time of 20:46 and senior Tiffany Morris finished 51st in 21:08 to qualify for regionals.

In addition to Marsh’s girls team-leading performance, sophomore Hayden Wise led the way for Moses Lake on the boys side. Wise ran the three-mile course in 16:54, finishing 36th and wrapping up a trip to the regional meet.

Wise won’t be alone on the boys side.

Moses Lake senior Ben Daschel finished just six seconds after Wise and in 40th place to qualify for the regionals.
