WARDEN — The Warden Cougars girls volleyball team broke their season-long losing streak Tuesday night with a sweep of South Central Athletic Conference rival Kiona-Benton.

Warden entered Tuesday night’s contest against the Bears after beginning the season 0-9 overall and 0-7 in conference play before dominating Kiona-Benton for their first win of the season.

With his team’s first win of the season, Warden head coach Jeff Kottong said his team played well.

“They played really well,” he said. “We did a better job of minimizing unforced errors.”

The Cougars controlled the match from the opening service Tuesday night, cruising to a pair of 25-15 victories to take a 2-0 lead at home.

Kiona-Benton tried to put the pressure on Warden in game three, but the Cougars would not be denied their first victory of the season as they held on for a 25-20 victory.

Warden has continued to improve throughout the season and Kottong said his team deserved the victory.

“We have bene improving,” he said. “I though we played well (last week) against Connell, but we were outmatched. Our hitting is improving. It is starting to come around. They are starting to play better.”

Senior Kacey Kisler led the Warden defense with 16 digs and Emma Bisnett recorded nine kills and two blocks for the Cougars and Cynthia Martinez had 13 digs in the victory.
