Barbara Mae Covey

Our loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother passed away on Monday October 12, 2009 at Samaritan Hospital.

Barbara M. Covey, 81, long time Moses Lake resident was born in Yakima, Washington and attended school there. She was the daughter of Bert and Bessie DeGooyer. After completing Beauty School and becoming a hair dresser she met Army Air Corp. Sgt. Clyde W. Covey. They were married August 4th 1946, they moved to Davenport Iowa, where Clyde (who preceded her in death) began his studies to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.

In 1951 with their two small children they moved to Moses Lake and established their home and practice.

Barbara was an active Mother, homemaker, and bookkeeper for her husband’s practice. She was a member of the Silver Sage Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star (Past Worthy Matron) and a member of Amaranth Court #82. She and her husband loved to golf and they were members of the country club.

She established her own business in the 1980’s as a Nikken distributor.

She was very active in her children’s lives, as her children Ron and Marsha pursued careers in music. She was the official chaperone for Marsha during her reign as Miss Moses Lake in 1968 and Miss Washington in 1969.

Throughout the years Barbara had established wonderful friendships. In the last two years she had reconnected with many of those friends enjoying activities, sharing their experiences, and daily living at Hearthstone Retirement Community. She was voted by the other residents to be the November “Resident of the Month”.

She is survived by her children Ron and Patti Covey of Moses Lake, Marsha and Dale Cohen of Seattle her grandchildren Trisha McManus of Vancouver, Dr. Brian and Jennifer Covey of Mt. Vernon, Brett McManus of Redmond, Jeff Covey of Issaquah, Nathan Covey of Ephrata, Ekko Covey of Moses Lake and Eric and Jennifer Dorris of Aurora Colorado as well as nine great-grandchildren. Nina, Micah, Bailey, Maddie, of Mt. Vernon. Cheyenne, Chase and Dustin of Aurora Colorado, and Gracie and River of Moses Lake.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday October 19th 2009 at the Moses Lake Presbyterian Church with Pastor Eric Frey and Dr. Paul Wagner officiating. Private family graveside services will precede the memorial.

Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.
