Goodrich an excellent choice for school board
Elliott Goodrich wants to be a member of the Moses Lake School District Board of Directors and he is highly qualified for the position. He has high standards for the Moses Lake School District. He insists on higher graduation rates, more employable graduates, and less truancy. He would like to see more educational capacity, but at a more responsible cost to the community. As a retired educator, I appreciate his enthusiasm for recruiting and retaining the best teachers. School employees appreciate working in a district staffed by educators who know how to coax the best performance from their students. He believes that this is a concrete way to bring the community, the schools, and the families together for a great purpose; the future of their children and the future of our great nation.
Goodrich understands what our schools and taxpayers need
I am honored to solicit your support for Elliott Goodrich for Moses Lake School Board Position No. 4. Elliott is very knowledgeable and well spoken concerning issues confronting our schools. He has a refreshing respect for taxpayers as well as parents as we all search for an enhanced achievement for all Moses Lake students. As a young parent, Elliott understands the necessary foundational function of the primary grades; and that the need to show up, work hard and be respectful are skills that once learned will serve for a lifetime.

Unity
Thank you Columbia Basin Herald for publishing the articles written by our local pastors. I look forward each Friday for the opportunity to reading the thoughts of these fine gentlemen. I have read and heard messages concerning hope, relationship, reformation and other spiritual issues. It is exciting to me for these things to be discussed and studied. I heard all these goals from our pastors but the answer to reaching these goals came from the youngsters at the Christian school. They built a sign that read, “Faith is the assurance of hope.” Faith is at the heart of our relationship with God and this relationship leads us to love Him and each other. Faith reveals God’s will and as a result is always truth. When His will is made known to us we have the assurance in our spirit of what we have been called to accomplish.

Ponder the possibilities of pineapple
Native to South America, pineapples get their name from the Spanish word “piña,” meaning “pinecone.” Actually, it’s not one fruit, but a few hundred fruitlets fused together. Natives moved cultivation northward to other warm regions, and they were found by the same explorers who claimed the Americas back in 1492. Pineapple became a good keeping fruit source used by sailors who used it to battle scurvy. While Hawaii was once a big producer of the fruit, today the bulk of the world’s pineapples come from Southeast Asia, Thailand being the biggest producer.

Six poles caught fire Thursday night, said PUD spokesman Ryan Holterhoff, resulting in an electrical outage east of the Larsen substation. “It can be common this time of year in our climate. When moisture arrives after long dry periods it can cause wood poles to electrify and smolder, then catch on fire,” Holterhoff wrote. “So (Thursday night’s) rain is the expected cause.” The initial outage occurred about 10:25 p.m. and affected about 740 customers, Holterhoff said. Electricity was restored in that area in about an hour. “As crews were replacing damaged poles throughout the night, they had to cut power to other areas, causing additional outages for customers during the replacement.” Electricity was restored to all customers just after 8 a.m., he said.

Goodrich would be a welcome change on school board
Elliott Goodrich will be a good steward of the taxpayers’ money for Moses Lake schools. He has years of experience planning for and operating a large farming operation. He understands that problems can often be solved without paying out a lot more money. His approach is to study a problem carefully and come to a decision which promises the most success. He then becomes an advocate for that position, exploring its potential as a solution with others, making refinements as needed. He seeks consensus through persuasion and common sense — a marked contrast to the current method used by the school administration which seems to be endless forums to determine which way the wind is blowing. Mr. Goodrich offers leadership qualities we haven’t had.
Donovan and Ochoa have been good for Moses Lake schools
I support the re-election of Kevin Donovan and Oscar Ochoa as Moses Lake School Directors. Both are effective, knowledgeable and committed to creating the best schools possible. Kevin, an established businessman in our community, has overseen the budgets and expenditures so well the district, after years of trying, exceeded its goal of 8.8 percent cash reserves for the last three years. This reserve helped the district receive a high bond rating, which reduces the interest on bonds sold for school construction. At the same time, the district, under tremendous growth pressure, has, again during Kevin’s time, constructed two new elementary schools, a transportation center, the tech center, a building to house the swimming pool and a warehouse facility. All were on time and under budget, unusual in the best of circumstances. The final two were funded because of strong fiscal management of the first buildings on that list. Kevin understands the incredibly difficult school funding and budgeting process.

Melcher, Goodrich good choices for school board
I am a former school board member who proudly served our community for ten years from 1979–89. School Board members are elected to oversee school management to ensure that our students get the best education possible and that our money is spent wisely. After observing our current board for many years, I feel that they are in need of members with some new fresh ideas. Our community has been divided, over the years, with the talk of building new schools. We all want our kids to have the best education and with financial decisions impacting us we need people who will ask hard questions of school management about how money is being spent. They need to take time to research and talk to staff to find out what is happening in the schools. Be open to ideas from the community and not promote their own agenda. Our district is the largest business in Moses Lake. We need leaders that know how to successfully run a business and bring this community together.
Vickey Melcher a good choice for school board
I have known Vickey Melcher for almost 15 years both professionally and personally. In that time I have observed her dedicated work ethic, her passionate regard for students and her untiring commitment to improving our community. She is a rare combination of honesty, civic sensibility and enthusiasm as evidenced by her work on numerous committees, her volunteerism and her church activities.

The big 3 instructions to the Christian Church
I think that we can all agree that this world we live in is full of: strife, turmoil, and conflict. This being more evident than ever given the recent events. The unfairness in the world brings about a sense of justice. In other words, a desire to do something about the troubles of the world. We can’t get away from this, it’s a part of our human nature. No matter: what walk of life we come from, our political leanings, or the church we attend; we can all come together as believers to make a difference in this world. How we can do this is outlined through three instructions the apostle Paul made to the Roman church in Romans 12:12.

Elliott Goodrich well qualified for school board
We have been residents of Moses Lake for 40 years and we are excited for the opportunity to vote for Elliott Goodrich for Moses Lake School Board. Rarely do we get a chance to elect a person with such ability and qualifications. Elliott Goodrich attended Moses Lake schools K-12, graduating from Moses Lake High School in 2002. He received his B.A. in Political Science at BYU Provo, Utah in 2006 and his M.B.A. at the University of Washington, Seattle in 2011.
In Barry Lawson I trust...
I would like to endorse Barry Lawson for City Council position #4.
Lawson wants to do what's best for Moses Lake
Please vote for Barry Lawson for Moses Lake City Council Position No. 4. It’s not often I put a sign in my front yard for any candidate position – in fact, I can think of three times in the last 15 years – but Barry Lawson is an individual I believe would represent us with intelligence, humility, determination and the desire to do what’s right.

Barry Lawson puts community first
Your vote counts and who you choose can have a big impact on your family and your finances. We are proud to support Barry Lawson in his run for Moses Lake City Council Position No. 4. Barry is fully invested in this community. When we think of what qualities are needed to help lead this community, he meets them all: level-headed, knowledgeable, hardworking and responsible. He understands and welcomes the duties expected of him as a City Council member and is driven to help Moses Lake balance its roots as a small rural farming community and the industrial development breathing new life to our area, all while supporting the needs of our community members. We have seen his unwavering work ethic for years and feel confident in our promotion of Barry for City Council Position No. 4. We encourage you to vote for him as well. Remember, this community can only reach its potential with the very best leaders guiding that journey. Vote Barry Lawson and know he’s always putting community first.
Good candidates running for council
Although national level politicians do it all the time, I’ve heard if you’re running for election to the city council you shouldn’t openly support any other candidate since you might end up working with their opponent. Supporting one person doesn’t mean I think the others are not decent people or that I couldn’t work with them; they might not have thought I was the best candidate either.

Lawson would be an asset on council
As a local business owner, it is my privilege to support Barry Lawson for Moses Lake City Council Position No. 4. Barry is committed to making Moses Lake a community we can all be proud of. As a part-owner of Windermere Real Estate, Barry knows what it takes to make Moses Lake a better place for small businesses, and has been very open to listening to my input on city matters that concern me. He wants to maintain our great family community, while seeing some healthy economic growth. It is my opinion that he would be a very valuable asset to the city council.
Take a real look at the candidates
I would like to highly recommend Jason Avila for City Council. Having known Jason for over 10 years I can personally attest to his strong work ethic and absolute integrity for doing the right thing and not lowering his standards for personal gain. I have been impressed with his sound judgment and level head. Jason has a heart for family, church, and this community. And he is not afraid to back up his beliefs with a strong commitment of his time and effort. Jason exhibits a remarkable balance of attention to detail with practicality and common sense. He is able to deal with a variety of people and personalities, yet not lose his cool, and still get the job done. My hope is that with him being elected it will set us on a path of optimism and progress instead of one of bickering, character assassination and progress blocking. We have a wonderful community but like most, we have issues that need the best efforts of all our citizens to solve, including the City Council, and I know Jason Avila will help us solve them when elected.
Riggs will serve the city well
It is a pleasure to recommend Mike Riggs for a seat on the City Council of Moses Lake. I have known Mike as a member of the Trails Committee of Moses Lake. He has served as a leader for the existing trail system and as a visionary for future trails. His dedication and hard work has been exemplary. As principal of Knolls Vista Elementary School, he was one of the first to encourage the establishment of safe routes to school and to support walking to school as a healthy activity. When he retired from Knolls Vista, he served as superintendent of the Wilson Creek School District.
