Good candidates running for council

| October 12, 2017 3:00 AM

Although national level politicians do it all the time, I’ve heard if you’re running for election to the city council you shouldn’t openly support any other candidate since you might end up working with their opponent. Supporting one person doesn’t mean I think the others are not decent people or that I couldn’t work with them; they might not have thought I was the best candidate either.

I’ve studied all the other candidates and their backgrounds so I’m going to break tradition and tell you who I think should be on the city council and whom I hope to be working with soon.

Position No. 1: Oops, sorry, that’s me.

Position No. 2: I don’t understand how anyone could even think about not supporting Karen Liebrecht. This is the most honest person I know, the definition of integrity. I want her to continue leading this city on the council and as our mayor.

Position No. 4: Darryl Jackson has been around Moses Lake for a long time and yes he has been on the council before and yes he’s been the mayor. I think the council would benefit from his experience with running the city government, with budget issues, and helping make the council a more civil environment.

Position No. 5: Dr David Curnel? Is there even a question which of these two would be the better councilman? I have not agreed with all the decisions Dr. Curnel has made; actually I’ve seriously disagreed with a few. But I believe Dr. Curnel is an honest man who is continuing to learn and grow in his position, and always places the interests of our city first.

These are the people I will be voting for to lead our city and I think if you really look at the options you will vote for them also.
