The Othello PTA held its annual Jog-a-Thon fundraiser at Lutacaga Elementary Friday, Oct. 13. Kindergarten through fifth grade students were scheduled to run laps outside of the school, but the event was moved into the gymnasium because the weather on Thursday left too much moisture on the grass for the kids to run through.

Smiles lined the faces of students who spent 20 minutes walking/running the floor while raising money for schoolroom supplies.

“This is the 9th year of the Jog-a-Thon,” Nicole Gonzalez, PTA president said. “Our goal is $9,000. It’s the only fundraiser here at Lutacaga. All funds raised will be used for teacher wish lists such as books, manipulatives, extra curricular activities, hands on activities, classroom prizes, teacher appreciation gifts, crossing guard rewards, marimba band instruments, library stem projects, and end of the year 100-foot inflatable obstacle courses.”

Kids raise money by asking for pledges via flat rate or sponsorship on laps completed and will earn prizes based on the amount of dollars raised from pledges collected.

“We won’t know how much was collected until Oct. 27 — the date the pledged amounts are due in,” Gonzalez said. “The PTA will give 10 percent of the funds collected back to Lutacaga.”
