Basin roundup: Moses Lake girls swim third at districts

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake girls swimming totaled 300 points at the three-day district swim meet to finish third overall.

Perennial state title contender Wenatchee won the district championship with 631 points; crosstown rival Eastmont placed second with 353.

Anna Fair took fourth in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke. In the backstroke, Fair was edged out of second place by Eisenhower’s Jackie DeGrasse. Fair finished her race in 1:02.48, less than a half a second slower than DeGrasse.

Cora Dana took third in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 25.94 seconds. Izzy Sica placed third in diving.

Moses Lake’s best relay was the 200 freestyle featuring Fair, Jessica Williams, Lacy Johnson and Dana. The quartet finished third (1:45.91) behind first-place Wenatchee and Eisenhower.

Moses Lake did not earn any automatic berths to the state meet, but head coach Tony St. Onge is hopeful that Fair can earn wild card bids in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. St. Onge also said the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays have a wild card shot as well as divers Sica, Bethany Bateman and Amarae Mohs.

Cross country

Quincy’s Heikes fourth at CWAC/GNL meet

COWICHE — Quincy’s Bryn Heikes finished fourth at the CWAC/GNL District Glue Meet in Cowiche, helping the Jacks to sixth in the standings.

Heikes finished the course in 18:51.8. Teammate Jane Kennedy took 14th in 19:31.7. Heikes and Kennedy paced a Jacks team that recorded 181 points.

Karen Billingsley of Ephrata finished 17th in 19 minutes, 37.2 seconds. As a team, Ephrata was fifth with 168 points.

Selah won the girls’ competition with 45 points and the Vikings’ Molly Mattson won the race in 18 minutes, 31.8 seconds.

Pullman took first in the boys’ competition with 49 points. Selah’s Daniel Callahan finished first in 15 minutes, 30.2 seconds.

Ephrata (228), Othello (238) and Quincy (257) finished seventh, eighth and 11th, respectively.

Kolby Tune of Ephrata was 28th in 16:48, David Maldonado of Othello was 29th just behind Tune in 16:42.8 and Gonzalo Birrueta of Quincy was 37th in 17:09.3.

Prep volleyball

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 3, Wellpinit 0

WELLPINIT — Almira/Coulee-Hartline dominated Wellpinit 25-6, 25-5, 25-4.

Gabi Isaak recorded six kills and eight aces. Tiffany Boutain added 16 assists.

College volleyball

Spokane 3, Big Bend 0

SPOKANE — Madison Powers had a team-high eight kills, but Big Bend was swept by Spokane 25-18, 25-23, 25-15.

Laurissa Kisler notched 12 digs and Savannah Bass finished with 17 assists.
