Former mayor Jackson can get council back on track

If you are a Moses Lake voter who favors recent calls for a new direction for the city council, please pay attention to the race for Position No. 4, and vote for Daryl Jackson.

This contest is unusual because there are four candidates on the general election ballot instead of two. There will be no runoff.

It was unprecedented when four former Moses Lake mayors wrote to the CBH calling for a change on the council. Daryl Jackson is one of those former mayors. He filed for position No. 4 in part to protect the city from special interests (and “their” councilmen) that have put the city at financial and legal risk in recent years.

Jackson served eight years on the city council. He has the institutional memory needed by the Moses Lake City Council at this time in its history. He served when there was civility among council members, and while they had disagreements, they moved the city forward. Due to a lifetime of service, Jackson has contacts and name recognition at the local, state, and federal levels.

The effort to change the direction of the city council has momentum. More than two-thirds of Moses Lake voters voted for someone other than incumbent councilmen/mayor Todd Voth. He and former councilman Bill Ecret have resigned, trimming the seven-member council to five members.

The election of Daryl Jackson to Position No. 4 is crucial to the efforts to change the direction of the Moses Lake City Council.
