Prep roundup: Moses Lake slowpitch sweeps Ike
MOSES LAKE — Sjuana Rose hit a combined 7-for-7 against Eisenhower and Moses Lake won both games 12-1 and 20-4.
The first game ended in five innings and the second was called after four. Slowpitch softball has a 15-run rule after three innings.
Rose’s combined stats included seven hits, six runs, one triple and one double.
Game 2 was a combined effort by the Chiefs.
South Dakota transfer MaryElizabeth Morse was 3-for-4 with two runs. Brooke Richardson also had three hits to go with three runs scored.
Gina Skinner had four hits, crushed two doubles and scored three times.
Ciarah Knoll was 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs.
Moses Lake improved to 5-3 and will play second-place West Valley and first-place Wenatchee next week.
Girls soccer
Warden 5, Wahluke 3
WARDEN — Warden overcame a stingy Wahluke defense to win 5-3.
The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the first half, however, Cougars sophomore forward Aaliyah Escamilla recorded a hat trick in the second half to help the home team pull away.
“The girls picked up their pace and scored two goals in the last two minutes,” head coach Hannah Mohs said. “I’m proud of them. Huge shout out to Aaliyah Escamilla for finishing some gorgeous through balls from her teammates.”
Wahluke attempted to stifle Warden’s potent attack with five defenders to clog the middle. With the forwards frustrated by the congestion, Warden relied on its midfield to play wide up the sidelines.
Ana Andrade scored two first-half goals, including one in the sixth minute that gave Wahluke a brief lead.
Both teams traded goals in the first half. Grace Richins was fouled in the box and converted the subsequent penalty kick to tie the game in the 10th minute.
Andrade answered three minutes later and Aubree Skone tied the game again five minutes before halftime.
“We need to work on our intensity and not giving up on ourselves,” Mohs said. “These girls have a lot of heart and we had to overcome some tough calls.”
Melanie Cazares crossed the ball to Escamilla for a goal in the 53rd minute, giving Warden its first lead of the game.
Jackie Hidalgo tied it for a third time in the 72nd before Escamilla scored twice in the last two minutes.

Moses Lake 3, Eastmont 2 (OT)
EAST WENATCHEE — Taya Rogers made a game-saving slide tackle to preserve a 2-2 tie in overtime, prompting a counter-attack that ended in an assist from Abby Rathbun to Morgan Skone and Moses Lake outlasted Eastmont 3-2.
It was a momentous road win for the Chiefs who overtake West Valley for second place in the Columbia Basin Big Nine at 5-2.
The game was tied 1-1 at halftime as both teams traded goals during regulation.
Madi Krogh scored one goal in each half for Moses Lake.
Royal 1, College Place 0
ROYAL CITY — Royal held College Place to zero hits and won 1-0.
Amy Sandoval scored the lone goal of the game in the seventh minute on an assist from Alicia Callahan.
“It was all one-way traffic, but the girls could not find the little bit of class needed to break down the parked bus and get the insurance goal,” head coach Jens Jensen said.

Eastmont 3, Moses Lake 0
EAST WENATCHEE — Moses Lake struggled to get its offense going and lost to Eastmont 25-17, 25-5, 25-22.
Yasmin Shateri led the Chiefs with eight kills.
Ellensburg 3, Quincy 0
ELLENSBURG — Quincy fell to CWAC-leading Ellensburg 25-16, 25-14, 26-24.
Ashlyn Rosenberger and Morgan Kleyn recorded seven and five kills, respectively.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 3, Tekoa-Rosalia 0
TEKOA — Peyton Curtis recorded 12 kills to lead Lind-Ritzville/Sprague over Tekoa-Rosalia 25-16, 25-17, 26-25.
Lacey Miller had a match-high 39 assists and Ellie Gering had 11 digs.
Brewster 3, Soap Lake 0
SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake was swept by Brewster 25-13, 25-19, 25-15.
Tracie Delgado had an all-around game of five aces, 10 digs and 12 assists.
Julian Hernandez and Makenna Johnson both totaled four kills.

Othello boys, girls third at CWAC meet
YAKIMA — Othello boys and girls cross country finished third at a CWAC league meet in Yakima.
The boys totaled 70 points and the girls had 69.
Ellensburg won the boys’ and girls’ competition with 24 and 21 points, respectively. East Valley boys (46) and girls (45) finished second.
Ellensburg’s Dominic Mathias won the boys’ race in 18 minutes, 35.95 seconds. Othello’s David Maldonado took third in 18:39.53.
Uhuru Hashimoto of Ellensburg won the girls’ race in 20 minutes, 43.18 seconds. Yesica Neponuceno was Othello’s leader, finishing 16th in 26:37.82.
