GOLDEN, Colo. — Opponents of I-1033 are woefully uninformed about the Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) passed by voters in 1992. Critics of Washington’s ballot measure say I-1033 is similar to our TABOR, which they claim is a disaster for our state. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Afghanistan
Gen. Stanley McChrystal recently delivered a 66-page report filled with blunt warnings and a fresh strategy to win the war in Afghanistan. More resources — including more American troops — must be sent, or NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) could lose the war.

MOSES LAKE FALL PICK UP
Reader happy with program continuing
I want to express great appreciation to whomever at Moses Lake Park and Recreation made the decision to bring back the fall brush pick up, albeit in a limited capacity. When I first heard it had been canceled I was not only disappointed but a bit stressed as to how I was going to manage accomplishing this seasonal task on my very limited income. Seeing in Tueday’s edition of the Columbia Basin Herald, that there is a plan and schedule to do a brush pick in October made me breath a huge sigh of relief as this is going to save me over $75. I really couldn’t afford to spend. Thank you for doing this. I know other citizens will be as appreciative and relieved as myself and I hope the response you get will encourage you to continue this much needed program.

'YOU LIE'
Reader disapproves of Wilson’s action
The issue regarding Rep. Joe Wilson shouting “You lie” at the President is not that he called Obama a liar. Politicians call each other liars all the time. Under Bush, Democrats made it quite clear that they felt the President was not being honest. The issue is Wilson’s yelling out during a joint session of Congress while being addressed by the President. The issue is the shouting, the belligerent tone, the disrespect for decorum, the fact that Wilson seemed to think he was attending a lynching, rather than a televised conference of the highest political bodies in the land. Research the Vietnam War era, the Iraq war under Bush, and you’ll find not a single instance of a Democratic congress member shouting at the President while congress was in session. So what’s up with Wilson, then? The man honestly believes that President Obama is not worthy of simple courtesy.

TEA PARTY
Reader encourages participation
American citizens, it is time to stand up and be counted. It is not good enough to sit at home and complain about where our government is taking us. The last year has seen America taking unprecedented steps towards socialism! We will soon wake up and ask “how in the world did we get here?” We will have to tell our children and grandchildren what we were doing as our government took total control of our economy, abolished many of our rights, wiped out the Constitution, and spent us into oblivion. If you are sick and tired of what is happening to our country, but you are frustrated and scared because you don’t know what to do, then join the Grant County Tea Party Caravan on Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lowe’s parking lot as we head to the Tri-Cities to join them for their 9-12 Tea Party in Richland. We need to show our Congress and President we know what is happening and we aren’t going to take it!! Bring your signs and decorate your cars!!

Reader disappointed in law enforcement
Last Sept. 25, a person I know kicked in the back door of my home and robbed my wife and I of over $14,000 worth of property. Three days later, he forged my name on a check he stole and cashed it at his bank for $950. Despite confessing to the investigating sheriff’s deputy he cashed the check, now almost a year later, he remains unarrested and uncharged. My wife and I have been in constant contact with the sheriff’s office and the prosecutor’s office with no positive result.
