COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — For the fifth consecutive season, the North Idaho College (NIC) women’s basketball team earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic All-American honors.

The NIC girls basketball team earned a 3.159 team grade point average over the year and Moses Lake’s Marielle McKean was named to the academic all-Amaerican team for having a grade point average higher than 3.6. A team must have a grade point average higher than 3.0 to qualify for NJCAA Academic All-American honors.

McKean is continuing an impressive athletic and academic career at NIC. McKean was chosen co-Female Academic Athlete of the Year last year and has been a mainstay on the NIC Dean’s List.

McKean, a starter for the Cardinals last season, helped NIC claim the Region 18 tournament championship. NIC finished ninth in the nation last season while McKean ranked 15th in rebounding in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

She also finished seventh in blocked shots.
