TACOMA - Approximately 1,200 high school wrestlers walked through the doors at the 2012 Mat Classic XXIV state tournament in the Tacoma Dome Friday morning. All hoping their dreams of becoming a state champion would come true.
Royal boys finish seventh at Mat Classic

TACOMA - It wasn't the desired results coach Seth Meeks had hoped for when his team took to the mats for the state championship tournament in Tacoma over the weekend. But the Knights had a better showing than most as they finished seventh out of 46 teams. Orting took top honors with 166 points.
Jacks perform well at state tournament

TACOMA - The Quincy Jacks only took five wrestlers to the Mat Classic over this past weekend, but came home with three state placers. Gabe Martinez and Christian Alejandrez finished second and third in the 106 weight class, and Carter Bushman finished seventh over the two-day tournament.
Othello boys team finish sixth at state
Girls take 12th
TACOMA -The Othello Huskies boys and girls wrestling team made a strong showing at Mat Classic XXIV Friday and Saturday as the teams finished sixth and 12th respectively. Deer Park won the boys team championship with 154 points. Othello finished with 60.5. The girls team championship was won by Sedro Wooley with 83 points the Huskies tallied 43.
Swim team at state this weekend
MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake High School swim and dive team will be in the in the water this weekend for the state meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
Tigers advance to second round
EPHRATA - Three Tigers scored in double figures Monday night to propel the Ephrata girls basketball team to a 57-40 win over Ellensburg in the opening round of the 2A District 5/6 playoffs.

SOAP LAKE - The Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) boys basketball team was firing on all cylinders last night as the Lions put a hurting Wilson Creek, 86-9 in the first round of the 1B Central Washington District playoffs.

MLCA boys defeat CBSS Phoenix
MOSES LAKE - Lowell Kirkwood drained 21 points and dished out five assist to lead Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) to a 71-46 win over Columbia Basin Secondary School (CBSS) last night. The Lions scored the first six points of the ball game as the Phoenix looked tight as the team missed their first four shots. Eric Curtiss got CBSS on the board with a left handed shot to close the gap to 6-2. But MLCA went on a 16-8 run to finish out the quarter up 22-10. Neither team scored in the first two minutes of the second quarter of play until Michale Northup sank a shot from behind the arc for CBSS to narrow the gap to 22-13. A myriad of mental mistakes and fouls put the Phoenix deeper in the hole as the Lions raced out to a 44-20 half time lead. It did help matters much when point guard Allan Curtiss fouled out of the game with 43 second to play before the break for CBSS.

ELLENSBURG - Impressive. That was the word most often used by fans, parents and coaches alike as the Othello Huskies won 60 individual matches, 28 by pin and 12 by technical fall at the 2A Central Washington District (CWAC) Wrestling tournament over the weekend.

ELLENSBURG - It wasn't the desired finish, but several swimmers turned in solid performances as the Chiefs placed fourth at the 4 A Columbia Basin Big Nine District Tournament at Central Washington University held Friday and Saturday.

MANSON - McKenna Walker combined for 54 points, 21 rebounds and 16 steals to lead Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) to wins over Manson, 64-17 Friday and Wilson Creek, 71-13 Saturday. The victories improves the Lions to 8-0 in league play and 16-3 overall.
CBSS boys bounce back with big win
WILSON CREEK - Michael Northup scored 27 points and Eric Curtiss added 22 as the Phoenix bounced back from a 40 point loss at home to beat Wilson Creek on the road by 41 points Friday.

MOSES LAKE - It was a rough night on the hardwood for the Columbia Basin Secondary (CBSS) boys basketball team Thursday as the team was blown out at home by Cascade Christian Academy (CCA) 88-47.
MLCA boys beat Cle Elum, girls lose
CLE ELUM - Joe Timofeyev scored 19 points and pulled down five rebounds to lead the Moses Lake Christian Academy to a 51-39 road win over Cle Elum Tuesday.
Moses Lake boys drop game to Davis
YAKIMA -Kevin Bennett drained five buckets from behind the arc for 15 of his team leading 18 points but his effort wasn't enough to propel the Chiefs to victory as Moses Lake was beaten handily by the Pirates 86-61 Tuesday.

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake girls basketball team left everything they had on the court two nights ago in the game against the Davis Pirates. Unfortunately, their hard fought effort wasn't enough to pull out a win as the team lost a thriller on the Chiefs home court, 51-44.

WARDEN - The Warden Cougars improved their record to 5-3 in the 2B Central Washington Conference after splitting games over the weekend. Warden beat Waterville Friday, then lost to league leading White Swan Saturday.
