Chiefs drop two matches at Dream Duals

SPOKANE - Moses Lake High School wrestlers had high hopes heading to the Dream Duals in Spokane Saturday.
But unfortunately, those hopes were dashed as the Chiefs lost to Union High School is a thriller, 34-33, and were beat handily by Mead, 59-12.
The Panthers defeated Union in the 4A championship round 59-12 to claim first place.
"I thought the majority of the kids wrestled well," coach Jamie Wise said. "Chase Clasen, Beau Gleed and Brad Fox had good outings, and Nico Moreno was outstanding again as he avenged his only loss of the season by beating Tyler Mclean."

The match against the Titans was as close as they get. Daniel Rice defeated the Chiefs Trey Long (106) 7-3 in the first match, but the Chiefs came back to win five out of the next seven to jump out on top 27 to 12. Chase Clasen (113) won by pin over Cody Hersel, Austin Rosoborough (120) lost by pin to Junior Godingo, Beau Gleed (126) pinned Elijah Watson, Anthony Barajas (132) won by forfeit, Brad Fox (138) lost a 6-2 decision to Tyler Davis, Brendon Sanchez (145) beat Jeremiah Reynolds 4-3, and Nico Moreno (152) pinned Mark Mamontov at the 2:52 mark in the first round.
But Union fought back to take five of the next six matches to squeak by Moses Lake and hand the Chiefs a one point loss.
Easton Castro (160) lost by a 6-1 decision to Josiah Reynolds, Jordan LaCelle (160) was beaten by Matt Rice 14-3, the usually steady Jonathan Perales (182) dropped his match to Dillon Thomas, Bryson Page (195) pinned the Chiefs Derek Fredrickson and Roman Martinez lost by pin to Mason Proudfit. Moses Lake's Justin Sainsbury ended the round with a forfeit win for the Chiefs.

The second round of the Dream Duals saw Moses Lake get taken to the woodshed by the Panthers as the Chiefs lost nine of 14 matches.
"Mead is a very tough team," Wise said. "We were missing a couple of wrestlers and that didn't help matters much as you can't have any chinks in your armor when you wrestle them."
The only victors for Moses Lake were Chase Clasen (113) who won by a 4-3 decision over Matt Petrini, Beau Gleed (126), 6-1 over Nick Lamb, Brad Fox (132) beat Wyatt Nemec 10-2, Nico Moreno (152) won by a 3-1 decision over Tyler Mclean, and Derek Fredericksen (195), who pinned Luke Hilmes at the 2:48 mark.
"Chase had a good match coming from behind to beat Petrini," Wise said. "And Brad (Fox) got revenge from a loss against Wyatt Nemec. But their upper weight gave us trouble. Mead is really loaded and will probably contend for the state title."
Moses Lake is back on the mat tonight when they host Chiawana at 7 p.m. The Chiefs travel to Eisenhower Thursday.
"I expect the match agaisnt Chiawana to be very competitive," Wise said. "We actually need to win our next two matches to win the conference title and I think we have a good chance of doing so."
