Lions race past Jaguars

EASTON - Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) maintained its grip on first place in the Central Washington 1B conference with a 50-10 road win over Easton Tuesday.

The victory improves the Lady Lions record to 6-0 in league play and 13-2 overall.

McKenna Walker and Anna Yarbro combined for 34 points and 15 rebounds, and Madison Yamane added  four points and 7 assists to lead the way for the MLCA.

"We battled through some fairly severe weather to play this game and I think the travel took out our legs a bit," coach Bryce McPartland said. "We looked sluggish in warm up's and played much of the game that way."

Despite the hour and a half trip west, MLCA jumped out to a 17-2 lead at the end of the first quarter of action and took a 26-6 score into the locker room at halftime.

The Lions continued to roar in the second half of play as they out scored the Jaguars 24-4 to come away with the lopsided win.

Although the wide margin of victory would suggest MLCA was clicking on all cylinders, McPartland said that just wasn't the case.

"It was frustrating to not experience a lot of success running our offense," he said. "But the girls did a nice job of staying committed to working through our sets. It didn't always make for very exciting basketball, but it's something we need to continue to improve on. That being said, at the end of the day, it was a  win on the road in league play and we'll take it."

The Lady Lions are back in action tonight as they make the long trek north to face Wilson Creek on the Devils home court.
