Moses Lake takes three-team meet

MOSES LAKE - It was a frantic day of swimming last night as Moses Lake competed against West Valley, Eisenhower and Davis in the Chiefs pool.
The three schools were assembled for three separate meets as events were rescheduled due to the harsh weather this past week.
Things were a bit hectic and a little confusing as all four teams were in the water at the same time. But when it was a said and done, the Chiefs beat West Valley 116.5-69.5, Eisenhower, 145-41, and Davis 148-36.
"I am really happy with the way the guys performed," coach Tony St. Onge said. "We were a little rusty because we haven't competed for a while, but we came out our last home meet with some very good times."
Moses Lake got off on the right foot as the Chiefs won all three heats in the 200 medley relay. The best time of 1:49.89 was turned in by the team of Evan McFarland, Kaelan Connacher, Brendon Eslick and Zach Johnston.
Johnston also turned in the fastest time (1:00.55) in the 100 butterfly, and Connacher beat all comers in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.48.
"Those four swam well the entire meet," St. Onge said. "A couple of other guys who hardly ever get mentioned also swam well.Tristan Randall who won the 200 individual medley (2:31.74), and Nick Osborn, who won the 100 freestyle (57.31)."
Moses Lake also won the last event of the day, the 400 relay with the team of Nick Reed, Logan Osborne, Randall and Nick Phillips with a time of 3:55.96.
By virtue of the strong performance, the Chiefs have now qualified 20 swimmers for district. But only 16 will make the trip as that is all of the slots allotted to any school.
Moses Lake still needs to qualify two more divers St. Onge said, if they expect to be able to compete at full strength.
"Currently only Jacob Price has qualified," he said. "But we'll need two or three more to qualify to stay even with Richland and Wenatchee. Dan Cline and Josh Snook are our best bets to fill the slots."
The two will get a chance to do just that as Moses Lake will take part in an 11-team dive meet in Ellensburg Friday.
