Karen M. Whitney-Deleon
Karen M. Whitney-Deleon was called home by the Lord on Wednesday morning Aug. 22, 2018, during her two-month illness at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Wash. Karen was 55 years old. She leaves behind her loving husband of 10 years Benny Deleon, her mother Violet Whitney, her brother Ed and her cousin Dixie Flores (aka Sis) who helped care for her several months prior to her death.

REC, Grant County settle tax dispute
MOSES LAKE — REC Silicon has agreed to pay Grant County $13.5 million to settle all of the company’s outstanding property taxes. The deal will cover all of the company’s outstanding taxes from 2013 to 2016, according to Francine Sullivan, REC’s vice president for business development.

Emil Johnson
Emil "Richard" Johnson went home to heaven at 2:37 AM on January 9, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil LeRoy Johnson and Verla Mae Clay-Johnson, sisters Aloha "Gaye" Beard and Lilas Hunter, and granddaughters, Kayla Simmons and Hannah Jenson. Richard is survived by many family members. In addition to ten siblings, Ore, Carol, Darla, Violet, Tina, Terry, Randy, Merritt, Rhonda, and LaVerta, he also leaves his wife of 26 years; Wanda Lee, and their eight children, Ken, Barbara, Duane, Don, Ronnie, Renee, Loren, and Lila, along with their spouses. Richard left a legacy of 26 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren who loved him dearly. There are countless cousins, nieces and nephews whose lives were positively touched by Richard. He spent much of his life giving to the Othello Community that he loved so much. In 1975 Richard co-founded the Community Christmas Basket program that is still going strong today. Because of his dedication to this cause, the family is requesting in lieu of flowers, that donations to be sent to the Othello Community Christmas Basket Fund. These donations can be made at U.S. Bank and Columbia Bank of Othello in Richard's name.

MOSES LAKE - Quincy teen Meg Hirai is one of 28 girls from around the world nominated for a prestigious award presented by the Soroptimist International organization. The winners of the Violet Richardson Award, which recognizes teen girls who work to make their communities better, will be announced in May.
