Alma Maria Olson White
Alma Maria Olson White, a long time Grant County resident, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 with her daughter Alana by her side. During the Christmas season on December 27, 1924 Olaf and Elin Jarf-Olson lovingly welcomed home Alma. Alma grew up in Spraque, Manitoba Canada with seven supportive siblings. Deeply rooted in Scandinavian tradition. In 1951, she received her Registered Nursing degree in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her move to Moses Lake, Washington came in 1968 where she continued her passion for nursing. Through many years of working and building a life, Alma was immensely blessed with dear friends and family.
William Hampton Frederickson
December 20, 1941 – July 23, 2023 William H. “Bill” Frederickson, 81, of Kennewick, Washington, passed away July 23, 2023, in Richland, Washington. Bill was born December 20, 1941, in Ellensburg, Washington, to Bill and Marjorie Frederickson. His family moved to Moses Lake, Washington, a couple of years later to operate a dairy in the Block 40 area. He graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1960 and was a state champion wrestler during his senior year. After high school, Bill attended Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho), then transferred to Washington State University, where he participated in the International Farm Youth Exchange Program and studied abroad in Germany. He finished college at the University of Hawaii-Hilo, before embarking on a Peace Corps mission in Borneo.
Douglas L. Stroud
Douglas L. Stroud, 67, longtime Moses Lake resident passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Elk's Lodge, 814 N. Stratford Rd., Moses Lake with Pastor Floyd Wilks officiating. Private family inurnment will be at the Columbarium in Guarding Angels cemetery, Moses Lake. Elks Lodge to move into Porterhouse building
MOSES LAKE — In a time when everything seems to be changing, at least one thing will remain the same: the Porterhouse totem pole is staying put. “There's such history with that totem pole, we would like to put a plaque there that acknowledges the history and the Russell family for leaving it there for the community,” said Debbie Doran-Martinez, a trustee with Elks Lodge No. 2892.

Jess Neil Mayrant, 79, of Ephrata, Washington, died on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at McKay Healthcare in Soap Lake. At the time, he was surrounded by family, and visited by a small bird at his window, who carried the big man’s soul to heaven.

Elsie Janet (VanWinkle) Stephens
Elsie Janet (VanWinkle) Stephens, born Oct. 15, 1936, in Orondo, Wash. to Harold G. and Elsie (Vurrow) VanWinkle, passed away at her home on Soap Lake on Nov. 23, 2006. Elsie had lived her entire life in north central Washington and had managed the Ephrata Moose Lodge for over 30 years. Bowling was her favorite sport, but she had many other hobbies and interests including cooking, darts, and all kinds of arts and crafts, especially knitting and crocheting, which kept her hands busy while she enjoyed old movies. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to the casinos. Elsie is survived by two sisters; Connie Carlson of Brentwood, Calif. and Carol Morgan of Wenatchee, two brothers; David VanWinkle of Spokane and Richard VanWinkle of Modesto, Calif., two sons; James Scott Kapalo of Lynnwood and Rober Todd Kapalo of Marysville, four daughters; Rhonda Kapalo of Spokane, Kim Pittman and Darla Jan Runnion of Soap Lake and Robin Lynn Kapalo of Ephrata, and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Harold (Bub) VanWinkle, and an infant son, Bradley Wayne Kapalo.
Shirley Elizabeth Carver
Shirley Elizabeth Carver, resident of Moses Lake, left her earthly existence on March 4, 2020, surrounded by family members. Shirley was born in October 1931, the only child of Kenneth C. Russell and Velma E. Russell in Ballard, Washington. In 1941 Shirley moved to Bremerton, Washington, and graduated from West High School. Following graduation, Shirley was employed in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a machine operator. In 1955 Shirley married Robert Carver at the First Presbyterian Church in Bremerton, Washington, and they later moved to Silverdale, Washington, where she enjoyed being a homemaker for many years. Shirley enjoyed country and western music, western movies, bowling, traveling, playing the accordion, swimming and raising horses, along with having many cats and dogs. More than anything, Shirley loved her children and grandchildren. She was also a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge.
Andrew Hall
In loving memory of Andrew L. Hall, Feb 12, 1959 – Dec. 9, 2022. He was born in Blackfoot, Idaho to William R. Hall and Elda B. Hall (Neilsen). He was a 1977 graduate of Moses Lake High School. Andy was a man with many diverse interests and talents. He had a number of shared adventures with his parents and was a good companion in their senior years. He always out-fished and out-hunted us all. He was preceded in death by his mother Elda, and survived by his father William R. Hall; siblings Lee (Sue) Hall, Bill (Tami Dinges) Hall, Kent (Susie) Hall and Lanette (Billy) May; nine nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and -nephews. Andy will always be remembered by many as “Santa Andy” during the holidays. There will be a Celebration of Life in Andy’s honor Feb. 11, 2023, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 1517 W. Broadway Ave., Moses Lake, Washington.
New bridges at Rocky Ford Creek make great stretch of trout water safer
EPHRATA — Access to one of the best fisheries in central Washington just got a little safer with the installation of two new foot bridges to the trails on both sides of Rocky Ford Creek, a fly-fishing holy water north of Moses Lake, at both the upper and lower ends near Trout Lodge fish hatchery.

Mervin Wesley Curtis
Mervin Wesley Curtis, 91, of Moses Lake, Wash., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008. He was at home with his wife, three daughters, and other family members nearby, and had a very peaceful passing.
James Madison Ellis
James Madison Ellis (79), formally of Moses Lake, Washington died on Sunday March 9, 2014 at Indian River Medical Hospital in Vero Beach, Florida. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy. After his retirement from military service, Jim was a member of the VFW, Eagles, and the Masonic Lodge. He loved camping, fishing, and the outdoors remaining active in these organizations and interests until failing health slowed him down. Jim's earthly remains were cremated. Jim's wish was that his ashes be cast upon the ocean. Typical of Jim, his request was that there be no formal services, although he leaves family and very dear friends to mourn his passing.
