Soap Lake’s Sanchez-Cruz earns Athlete of the Week
SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake sophomore Jocsan Sanchez-Cruz was named an Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association on Thursday after helping the Eagles secure a 2-0 start to the season with a win over Tonasket. Sanchez-Cruz, along with his doubles partner Xavier Gonzales-Robinson, picked up an 8-1 win over Tonasket’s doubles team of Ezra Marland and Cody Singer that locked up a 3-2 match win at home on March 20. According to the release, Sanchez-Cruz has maintained a 3.4 GPA while keeping up with his academics, tennis and assisting with Soap Lake’s GEAR UP program. Being nominated as a team captain, Sanchez-Cruz has guided his Eagle teammates throughout the young season, cheering them on during their matches and being a mentor.
BJ Garbe elected to WIAA Hall of Fame
MOSES LAKE — Former Moses Lake baseball player BJ Garbe has been elected to the Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association Hall of Fame. Garbe was the first athlete elected into the Moses Lake Hall of Fame when it was started by Greg Kittrell and Donnie Lindgren. Lindgren said he had the pleasure of informing Garbe that he’d been elected.

Ethel Leona Krug, 94, of Othello, Washington, passed away February 15, 2018. She was born in Lincoln, Washington on April 14, 1923. Ethel graduated from Edwall High School’s class of 1940. She was married to Edward J. Krug on September 28, 1941. Together they raised three children and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Edward passed away October 9, 2004.
