Betty M. Nolan passed away Feb. 17, surrounded by family at Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata. Betty was born Dec. 23, 1924 at Lynn, Ind. to William and Estelle Dale. She was an Army veteran of World War II. After moving to Washington she married Kermith "Rusty" Nolan in 1947. In 1954 Betty earned her nursing degree, graduating with the first Licensed Practical Nurse class in Washington State.

Elsie Janet (VanWinkle) Stephens, born Oct. 15, 1936, in Orondo, Wash. to Harold G. and Elsie (Vurrow) VanWinkle, passed away at her home on Soap Lake on Nov. 23, 2006. Elsie had lived her entire life in north central Washington and had managed the Ephrata Moose Lodge for over 30 years. Bowling was her favorite sport, but she had many other hobbies and interests including cooking, darts, and all kinds of arts and crafts, especially knitting and crocheting, which kept her hands busy while she enjoyed old movies. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to the casinos. Elsie is survived by two sisters; Connie Carlson of Brentwood, Calif. and Carol Morgan of Wenatchee, two brothers; David VanWinkle of Spokane and Richard VanWinkle of Modesto, Calif., two sons; James Scott Kapalo of Lynnwood and Rober Todd Kapalo of Marysville, four daughters; Rhonda Kapalo of Spokane, Kim Pittman and Darla Jan Runnion of Soap Lake and Robin Lynn Kapalo of Ephrata, and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Harold (Bub) VanWinkle, and an infant son, Bradley Wayne Kapalo.

Paul Neihart passed away Tuesday, Aug. 8 in Everett. Paul was born Jan. 1, 1914 to Charles B. and Mary Grace Neihart at their family home in Coulee City. He attended Coulee City schools through high school, graduating in 1931. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in 1939. He married Pauline Wilburn in 1940 and they operated Neihart Drug in Coulee City until their retirement in 1980. After their retirement, Paul worked for various pharmacies on a part-time basis. Pauline passed away in 1988. In 1990, Paul married Mabel Ford Hazelton. She passed away in 1998.
