Sherman P. Draney, 94, a longtime resident of Warden, passed away on Wednesday, June 30th after a short illness, surrounded by his family at Samaritan Hospital.

Sherman P. Draney, 94, a longtime resident of Warden, passed away on Wednesday, June 30th after a short illness, surrounded by his family at Samaritan Hospital.

Funeral services will be held in Warden at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Tuesday, July 6th, at 10:00 a.m., with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A viewing has been scheduled at the church preceding the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory. Sherman was born on September 17, 1915 in Plain City, Utah to Levi and Jessie (Painter) Draney. He was the 5th of 9 children. He grew up in the Burley, ID area and worked on the family farm. Sherman joined the Navy in 1944 and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He continued farming on his own and later met and married Lillis Biggs on January 30, 1952. They soon moved to Moses Lake and, along with three of Sherman’s brothers, opened and operated a tire and fuel station. He later moved his family to Warden where he continued to operate in business together with his brothers, as Draney Brothers, before retiring in 1974.

Sherman was preceded in death by his wife, Lillis, in 1990; his son-in-law Craig Hamilton in 2000 and by his parents and all of his 8 siblings. He is survived by his children: Patricia (David) Birkett, Teresa Hamilton, Kristine (Shawn) Shuler, Donna (John) Timm and James (Dori) Crouch. Grandchildren: Brittany Birkett, Derek Hamilton, Sara Shuler-Hill, Emily Shuler, Zachary Shuler, Shelly Johnson, Jim Pond, James Crouch, Joseph Crouch, Jon Crouch, Jeffrey Crouch, David Crouch and 13 great grandchildren.
