Boeing halts ML operations

CHICAGO — Boeing is closing down its production operations in the state of Washington, including Moses Lake, for the next two weeks, the aerospace giant said on Monday.

James Andrew Hammond, 83, passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 19, 2023, in Moses Lake, Washington. James was born March 19, 1940, in Homedale, Idaho, to parents Opal Christine and Alva Henry (Bud) Ford. He had a brother Gene R. Ford and sister-in-law Barbara, two sisters Betty Jacobson and Doris, one brother Carl Edward Ford and sister-in-law Terri Ford and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmy was best known for running around town doing errands for many local businesses. He was also known as Little Jimmy.

MOSES LAKE - A Moses Lake man, attempting to assist another driver involved in a collision, fell 69 feet down an embankment along Interstate 90.

MOSES LAKE — A driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Equinox lost control of her vehicle near the intersection of state Route 17 and Yonezawa Boulevard, flipping the car, hitting several other vehicles waiting at a stoplight, and causing a five-car pileup that snarled traffic for over an hour.

Outstanding Resource Water recognition

Soap Lake's unique properties have helped garner protections for it under Department of Ecology Program

SOAP LAKE — The Washington Department of Ecology has designated Soap Lake an “outstanding resource water,” effective Jan. 18. Under the new designation, any new or expanded source of pollution on the lake could not make a measurable change in water quality.

Frankie Harry Karas was born on Oct. 6, 1940, to Haralompos Constantinos Karles (Harry Karas Sr.) and Helen Brown in Ephrata, Washington.

Larry Holterhoff

Larry Holterhoff, 74, passed away in Central Washington Hospital just weeks after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He was born in Wenatchee, Washington to Kenneth and Doris Holterhoff. He and his three brothers were all raised in Ephrata where Larry graduated high school in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. Larry served in the military for three years where he earned both Vietnam and National Defense Service Medals. Larry met his wife of 50 years, Debbie, in 1970 where he would say he fell in love with her and her red Volkswagen Bug. They were married on Dec. 16, 1972. Larry and Debbie made their home in Ephrata and would eventually welcome their two sons, Ryan and Todd. Larry worked for Grant PUD, mostly as journeyman lineman, for 38 years.

Auction set to support local accident victim

MOSES LAKE – Central Washington Livestock, Inc., Moses Lake, is set to auction off Panda the Mexican steer Wednesday at 1 p.m. to support Caleb Berquist and his family as he recovers from a side-by-side ATV accident. “I actually grew up with Shane Berquist, Caleb’s dad,” said Randy Hull, Jr. of Central Washington Livestock, Inc. “We’ve been close friends our whole lives – grew up in the same little town. (He’s) the closest thing to a brother that I’ve got, and so, obviously I have known Caleb since he was born.” ...
