NWSL fall series begins Saturday with Sky Blue at Spirit
The National Women's Soccer League's fall schedule will open Saturday with a match between Sky Blue and the Washington Spirit.

Ruth Elizabeth Genco, 94, a resident of Moses Lake, Wash., since 1960, went home to be with the Lord March 14, 2024. Ruth was born Dec. 22, 1929, to Nicholas and Emma George in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 1939 her family moved to homestead 80 acres in Homedale, Idaho. When she graduated high school she attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, Wash. While living in Spokane she met Peter Genco. They were married in 1952. They celebrated 64 years before Peter passed away in 2016. They moved to Moses Lake, Wash., in 1960 and raised their family of one son and five daughters. Ruth was a homemaker and stable figure in the neighborhood. In 1967 she returned to the workforce and was employed by Big Bend Community College for 25 years, retiring in 1992.

NEWS BITES for Aug. 13, 2024
GEORGE — A man allegedly pointed a handgun at three people in the town of George on Saturday, according to a statement from the Grant County Sheriff's Office. The suspect left with another man in a blue Ford Explorer on Road 1 Southwest. A vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle description was found near South Frontage Road West and Road 1 Southwest. When the deputies arrived, the suspect was inside the vehicle but refusing to exit or obey commands. After ignoring commands from deputies, two flash grenades were discharged outside the vehicle and several pepper ball projectiles were introduced inside the vehicle. Fredesvindo Alvarado Martinez, 25, George, was in custody at 6:55 p.m. on Sunday and lodged at Grant County Jail. He is being treated for exposure to a deployed pepper ball. The other man was released after questioning.

MOSES LAKE — A warm sunny day brought wine and spirit aficionados, art lovers, music lovers and shoppers to downtown Moses Lake Saturday. Daniel Boon Dunn passed away in his home on Oct. 1, 2008, just after celebrating, in fine fashion, 96 years on this earth. Sharp as a tack to the end, his last speech to his family was an expression of his deep gratitude for his long life and loving relationships. He was born on Sept. 27, 1912, in East St. Louis, Ill., where his father, Frank H. Dunn built homes and his mother, Margaret, raised Dan and his two sisters, Ruth and Irene and his brother Paul.

Moses Lake Freedom Fest – grateful for the support
Grateful to the community for support of this event the first weekend in July. Our community hosted a large farmers market, activities for the kids, food truck rodeo, music, and fireworks on Saturday in McCosh Park.
