Cope is a student in the high school's BNC-TV film making program. The presentation was one segment of a career showcase put on by the University of Washington and Central Washington University GEAR UP programs in the Columbia Basin. More than 600 eighth-graders from Grant and Adams counties converged on Big Bend Community College Thursday to learn about and plan for future careers. Howard York

Born December 31, 1920, in Blue Hills, Nebraska, Howard passed away February 14, 2012, in Liberty Lake, Washington. He graduated from high school in Kapowsin, WA, in 1938. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940, serving in Electron, WA. He then became a ship fitter from 1941 to 1944 in Bremerton, WA. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 before attending WSC in Pullman, WA, graduating in 1951 with a BS in Agriculture. He taught Voc Ag in Dayton, WA, for one year before moving to Moses Lake, WA, where he taught Voc Ag from 1952 to his retirement in 1976. Howard was a long time member of the Methodist Church; he was an FFA advisor, and member of the Kiwanis of Moses Lake.

Wesley J. Maddicks, 91, a longtime Moses Lake resident and retired minister, was welcomed into Heaven on Sunday, September 7, 2014. He was residing at McKonnin Adult Care Home. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Kayser's Chapel. Vault interment will be in Zillah City Cemetery on Wednesday, September 10, in Zillah,Washington. A celebration and remembering of his life to be held at 11a.m., Saturday, September 13th at New Beginnings Christian Center, located at 318 W. Northshore Dr. with Pastor Skip Bennett, officiating. Gayle Michelle Bonato, 61, of Holts Summit, Missouri, formerly of Moses Lake, Washington, passed away Aug. 8, 2023. She was born Aug. 27, 1961, in Othello, Washington, a daughter of the late William A. and Susan D. (Kanenwisher) Whitmer. Gayle enjoyed quilting, playing the guitar and singing. She was a very selfless person and enjoyed helping others. She was furthering her education before her illness by attending college online at Capella University. Gayle loved her family but she especially cherished every minute spent with her grandchildren. Gayle is survived by her husband David Bonato of Holts Summit; one daughter Jennifer Mwangi (Wilson), also of Holts Summit; one son James Whitmer of Washington; daughter-in-law Allison Bonato-Garcia of Oregon; grandchildren Rachael, Rivers, Gianna, Samuel, Ruth and Sarah; sister Courtney; and brothers Scott, David and T.J. Along with her parents, Gayle was preceded in death by two sons Tony Bonato and Matthew Bonato and sister her Brenda.
