Marcia L. Fossen, lifetime resident of Moses Lake, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at her home surrounded by her family. Marcia was born Oct. 2, 1952, in Moses Lake. She worked at the Moses Lake School District until ill health forced her to quit. She is survived by her daughters Michelle Bradley and Tami Miller, son-in-law Mel Bradley, grandsons Brandon and Preston Bradley, sisters Linda Moyer (Chuck) Jackie Lowry (Dick) and cousin Leanne Bunn (Vic). Also her friend Tim Schimke and friend and companion Wayne Isom. She left several nieces and nephews and cousins, also her friends Vic Jansen and Don Merrill. Preceding her in death were her parents LeRoy and Dee Flower, her husband Dan Fossen, sisters Nancy Combs and Judy Larsen. At her request no services will be held. Marcia knew no strangers. She was a special lady with too many friends to name. Donations may be made to the Moses Lake Dialysis Center. In addition, the family wishes to thank the hospice staff, nurses and chaplin.

Amy I. Jones, 35, Moses Lake resident. Amy was born and raised in Seattle. She moved to Tri-Cities and had her two beautiful children, 16-year-old Cheyanne Hughes and 13-year-old Robert Jones. Soon after she moved to Othello and stayed awhile. She has lived in Moses Lake for about seven years on and off. She passed away early Thursday morning in her home. She was a single mother and her family loved her dearly. She struggled, but got by with what she could. Her loved ones will always remember her strength and crazy, but good ways. Celia (Prieto) Olivas
Celia (Prieto) Olivas was born to Jose & Celia Prieto on Feb. 12, 1943 in Chihuahua, Mexico. On Jan. 5, 2007, the beloved Moses Lake citizen died in a car accident on Highway 6, south of Salt Lake City, Utah. Celia was married to Hector Olivas on Jan. 30, 1965, in Mexico. Shortly thereafter, she and her husband moved to the Columbia Basin, where he worked in agriculture and she worked as a housewife. Gifted at childcare, she raised eight children of her own and made a living as a childcare provider. She babysat dozens of Columbia Basin children over 15 years. Mrs. Olivas was a talented gardener, an admired cook, and a tireless seamstress. She sewed many formal gowns and bridesmaids' dresses, and patched the knees of countless farmers' jeans. She joined the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in 1976. Until her death, she was a very active member—particularly at the Spanish-speaking church in Othello.

Merle Palmerton
It is with great joy that we celebrate her life and with sadness, we announce the death of longtime Moses Lake resident Merle Palmerton. She died on Jan. 4, 2007, at the age of 91. She was born June 25,1913, in Mt. Vernon, Wash. to Wilbur and Zoe Chesnut. After graduation from high school in Mill City, Ore. she attended Oregon State University where she competed on the swim team and majored in Art. She married Sam Palmerton in Salem, Ore. on Nov. 25, 1941, and they were married for 54 years. They had two children, Gae and Pat. Merle and Sam moved the family to Moses Lake from Idanha, Ore. in 1952 at the opening of the Columbia Basin Reclamation Project. They cleared sage brush and built the family farm in Block 41, east of Moses Lake where she lived until Sam's death in 1996. Merle was employed as a secretary by the Moses Lake School District until her retirement. For many years she was the secretary for the district's Special Services Dept. She was a 30-year member of the Washington School Secretaries Association and was selected as one of the top 10 school secretaries in the nation. She hunted and fished, was an accomplished seamstress, baked heavenly pies, loved to dance and play bridge. Merle and Sam traveled throughout the nation and the world during their retirement and loved their winters in Hawaii. They were both avid snorklers.

Doris was born May 14,1927, at London, Ohio, to William and Mabel (McCann) Ireland. Siblings surviving are Ella (Glen) Marlin, William (Esther) Ireland, Bea Ireland, and Blanche (Delbert) Harlan. Her surviving children are Roy Lee Ireland, Samantha (James) Luper, Rebecca (James) Jones, Mary Jane (Steven) Weber, George Poor, Laura Burris, Loretta Shortridge, Ronald (Debbie) Poor, and James (Angel) Budd- She is also survived by numerous grandchildren including Jaimi Budd, Forrest Budd and McKenzie Rose Budd of Ephrata. She is remembered with special love by a cousin William L. Fletcher and friends Darin and Eric St. Clair. Her many nieces and nephews including Terry Lee Ireland, Del Harlan Jr., Bonnie Reed, Michael Harlan, Joyce Erickson, Bill Ireland Jr., Christine Ireland, George Ireland and Raymond M. Backulich will also miss her. Doris loved children and animals. A funeral service will be held at Benson Funeral Chapel, 104 W. Fifth Avenue, Moses Lake at I p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2007 followed by interment at Moses Lake Cemetery.
