Volunteers corral 2 tons of trash at Spring Cleanup

MOSES LAKE — About 225 to 250 volunteers picked up an estimated 2 tons of trash around Moses Lake Saturday morning in the annual “Spring Cleanup.” This marks the 18th year volunteers have fanned out around town on a spring weekend to pick up trash. “For the most part it’s the same folks each year,” participating as volunteers said Alan Heroux, one of the organizers. Heroux estimated the volunteers picked about “half a (garbage) truck full” of winter debris and all-around junk. Organizer Bill Ecret found donations of bags for trash, donations of food for the volunteers after the cleanup and a place to have lunch, among other things. “He basically got everything donated,” Heroux said. “Bill has been instrumental in making this event happen for many years now.” Other companies and individuals donated labor, money and materials.
