Voth and Ecret deserve support
I would like to give a pat on the back to both Todd Voth and Bill Ecret who are both running for re-election for city council positions.
Aim for civility in letters, talk
We are in the thick of a pre-election surge of letters to the editor and guest columns. Submissions from our readers are appreciated and welcome. The pages of the newspaper are more interesting with different viewpoints and opinions from a variety of writers like you. Opinion pages are exactly that: opinions on topics ranging from city budgets to the qualifications a political candidate offers.
It's time for a change
Past and recent actions by the City Council, especially Councilmen Voth and Ecret, have raised questions as to where their loyalty and direction is taking them. This should cause concern among Moses Lake residents to their desires – is it for Moses Lake, or personal satisfaction? It’s time for a change.
Council election is on the up-and-up
I am currently seated in the Moses Lake City Council Position No. 4. It has been my honor to have served the citizens of our community for the past four years, I am humbled to have served the last year and a half as your mayor.
Voth and Ecret are good for Moses Lake
Moses Lake needs Todd Voth and Bill Ecret on the city council. These two men are the best representatives of the City of Moses Lake that we could hope to be able to vote in for the positions. Moses Lake’s citizens are constantly at the forefront of their thoughts and actions. They are always looking for ways to address citizens’ concerns, issues and ideas on improving the city.
Voth-Ecret switch sneaky and unethical
A point of clarification is needed regarding the recent manipulation of the city council election process by Moses Lake Mayor Todd Voth and Councilman Bill Ecret.
Abundant natural gas is a giant step toward energy independence
In the last half century, Americans yearned for energy independence. We were tired of being held captive by foreign governments – some of which continue to be hostile toward the United States and our way of life.

Desert Oasis students clean up, call for recycling
J. J. Ozuma was amazed at what he and some classmates found cleaning up a long stretch of McManamon Road.
Moses Lake needs Mike
As a lifelong resident of our fair city, it is with confidence I endorse Mike Riggs for Moses Lake City Council Position 1. Mike exemplifies honesty, fairness, reliability, and thoughtfulness – in all he does. He is approachable and willingly seeks to learn all sides of an issue before weighing in. Mike possesses a pragmatic and hopeful insight into our community’s problems and needs.
Bait and switch, Chicago politics
In the next several weeks four past mayors of Moses Lake will write letters to the editor. The subjects will be about the current city council and what direction it appears to be going the last two years. The recent letter by Dean Hankins sums up the bait and switch of two of the current council members. Two years ago Doug Sly called four members of the current and past council, part of the “Shadow Council,” referring to secret meetings, outside legal counsel, and vote rigging to obtain their agenda. One of that council was defeated soundly in the 2016 election but has filled again for 2018. Two other members are seeking to be elected instead of re-elected for 2018. This is an example of “Bait and Switch.” Those four were responsible for the debacle that resulted in the firing and re-hiring of the city manager. I know that one of the other mayors will address the costs of this decision to the citizens of Moses Lake.
There are better choices for council members
Underhanded and unethical? Sneaky and shady also? Sad, but true. Todd Voth and Bill Ecret were council members who proved their lack of ethics by ambushing our city manager during a council meeting. They fired him, then had to undo the firing because it was underhanded, unethical, sneaky, shady and possibly illegal. All this was done at huge expense to the city. Remember that? They were not up for election at the time, so they remained on the council. Now is a chance to remedy that, as they have not changed their practices as shown by this filing fiasco.
