Midori Osumi
Midori Osumi passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010 after a short illness with family at her bedside; a 12-year cancer survivor. Midori was raised in the Twin Falls area. After finishing her education, she enjoyed a period of travel. As a career, she worked with the Internal Revenue Service, Washington DC and Los Angeles. In 1950, Midori found the love of her life and married Fred, who has preceded her in death; they had one child, Gloria. The young family started farming on the Basin Project in its early years. Midori enjoyed gardening and took advantage of the Basin’s great weather. She was also a long term volunteer at the Grant County Fair, no matter what the weather and a founding member of the Nisei Woman’s Club. Midori was blessed with a giving spirit that found any opportunity to help others. After the attacks of 9-11, she made dolls for children who lost family members. As a member of a homemaker’s club, she made bibs that were used at Samaritan Hospital. Fish trembled at the name, Midori, as they knew they stood not a chance against her as a fisherman. Midori is survived by her beloved daughter, Gloria Vorhies, a son-in-law Miles Douglass, 2 brothers and 3 sisters left of 12, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and other relatives. Service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Benson’s Funeral Home, 104 W 5th Ave, Moses Lake, followed by a dinner at the O’Sullivan Grange.

Alvin Haug
On June 11, 2023, the world lost an amazing man, a loving husband and father, a best of friends, and a great warrior of God. Alvin Haug, 59, was a free spirit and lived a life of love and peace. Alvin was known for his big heart and his forgiving ways, and he left a mark on every person he crossed paths with. He was the type of man to take a stranger out of the cold and into his home or to give the shirt off his back to even the ones who wished him bad. He constantly won the hearts of people with his grace and love for others. There were very few people whom Alvin met who didn’t consider him a friend or family. A father of eight, Alvin was also known for his hard work. He loved his job as a plant mechanic and spent 30 years with Washington Potato and was said “to be the heart of the plant.” He instilled the same strong work ethic in his children. A simple man, Alvin always believed that a man’s legacy would be survived by his friends and family, to which he had in abundance.

MOSES LAKE — It didn’t take long after the eruption on Mt. St. Heles on May 18, 1980, for life to begin to re-emerge on the sides of the mountain, according to biologist and author Eric Wagner.
