Ag announces loan assistance program to help farmers
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The US Department of Agriculture has announced a final phase of loan assistance for distressed direct and guaranteed farm loan borrowers through the Inflation Reduction Act. About $300 million is available nationwide.
GCFD4 Chief on admin leave, under investigation for malfeasance
WARDEN – Grant County Fire District 4 Fire Chief Kevin Whitaker has been placed on unpaid administrative leave. Grant County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman confirmed there is an ongoing investigation for malfeasance through GCSO which began in late November.

MOSES LAKE —During the regular session of the Moses Lake School District board meeting held Thursday, board members unanimously endorsed the upcoming levy aimed at enhancing educational resources and opportunities for students. Board Chair Kirryn Jensen emphasized the importance of the levy in sustaining the district's educational quality.
Defense rules the court as the Eagles defeat Gauchos
CHENEY — The last hurrah for Eastern Washington women's basketball in 2024 was on Reese Court tonight and they closed out the non-conference schedule with a return to a familiar formula for success. Eastern defeated UC Santa Barbara, 54-46, on Friday night behind a strong defensive effort through all four quarters. EWU finishes its non-conference slate with a 4-8 record, while the Gauchos fall to 7-5.
Bipartisan effort reducing BAC limit to .05% could face opposition from both sides
(The Center Square) – State lawmakers filed a bipartisan effort Monday to reduce the standard to charge someone with driving under the influence, but there could be opposition on both sides of the aisle. If approved, Senate Bill 5067 would make Washington the second state to lower its per se blood alcohol concentration, or BAC limit for driving, from .08% to .05%. Utah was the first, with its law taking effect in 2018, although others have similar provisions for people with prior convictions.

PULLMAN – The Washington State Cougar soccer team (2-1) defeated the Idaho Vandals, 2-1, Sunday night at Lower Soccer Field to give Head Coach Todd Shulenberger his 100th career win. Seniors Jenna Studer and Julianna Duckett each scored their first goal of the season to secure the win.

Bipartisan WA effort to combat fentanyl continues
MOSES LAKE – Washington’s Congressional delegation is working to combat the fentanyl crisis in the state and nation on a variety of fronts in our nation's capital. Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., Sens. Patty Murray and Sen. Maria Cantwell, both Washington Democrats, all have efforts in place to mitigate the deadly drug’s impacts.
Are northern giant hornets bugging out of Washington state?
(The Center Square) – There is cautious optimism that the invasive and predatory northern giant hornet has been eradicated from Washington state. But that’s not official yet. According to the Washington State Department of Agriculture, the Evergreen State must go three years without detection to meet the regulatory definition of eradication.
FIRE REPORT: Fires calm statewide with rain, cooler weather
MOSES LAKE – Air quality in the Columbia Basin was rated good Saturday after rainfall helped reduce fire activity throughout Washington state, according to AirNow.gov. Smoke from fires west and north of Grant County did have some impact on air quality.
