GEORGE — The Gorge Amphitheater was evacuated Friday night during the Tyler Childers concert due to inclement weather and a wildland fire behind the venue close to the Columbia River. Firefighting aircraft were used to fight the fire due to the difficult terrain. Fire risk to the music venue was minimal. The fire began prior to 5:45 p.m. and was reported extinguished by 7:15 p.m. and the venue reopened at that time.  

QUINCY — A Quincy man was arrested early Saturday morning after an hours-long incident with law enforcement.  

The unnamed suspect barricaded himself in a home in the 400 block of K Street SW in Quincy between 2 and 3 a.m. according to an announcement from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement threw flash bangs and tear gas into the home to try to get the suspect to exit the residence peacefully. The regional tactical response team  later entered the residence at about 6:40 a.m. and found the suspect hiding in the attic.  

The Quincy Police Department, Ephrata PD, Moses Lake PD, Othello PD, MACC 911, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, GCSO and Protection 1 EMS responded to the incident.

QUINCY — Grant County Fire District 3 announced Friday that the community has raised $20,000 to help volunteer firefighter recruit Ben Belino obtain a prosthetic leg suitable to help him fight fires safely. Belino is a recent graduate of Ephrata High School and lost his left leg in a vehicle accident while still in high school.  

QUINCY — Grant County Fire District 3 announced last week that its board of commissioners has appointed Deputy Chief David Durfee as the interim fire chief after Chief Anthony Leibelt announced that he would be taking time to care for family and subsequently retire.
