QUINCY — According to the Quincy Police Department, a citizen received a phone call from a QPD phone number Thursday morning claiming to be a QPD sergeant.

The citizen was told they missed a federal subpoena and there was going to be a warrant for their arrest unless they signed some papers. The caller also said a new call would come in so the citizen would be on a recorded line. The call then dropped due to the citizen going into a tunnel. QPD assumes the next step would be for the fake QPD sergeant to ask the citizen to take care of the warrant by paying a fine.

QPD wants citizens to know that officers will not call them about federal warrants, nor will the department threaten an arrest to try to elicit some type of payment. The calls are scams and no personal information should be given out. Any questionable calls may be verified by hanging up, searching for the official phone number for the associated law enforcement agency and calling to confirm. Generally, warrants and subpoenas are served in person by officers or deputies.
