Keep Guantanamo under US control
As the Grant County Republican Central Committee, we wish to express our grave concern over the possibility of our nation’s base and detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba being closed and returned to the control of the Cuban government. In the near future, President Barack Obama will be making a trip to the nation of Cuba and there is deep suspicion that he and his administration may attempt to circumvent Congress and make an agreement with Cuba to vacate that facility. We call upon Congress to pass appropriate legislation immediately to prevent this possible action and force this administration to adhere to the spirit of the treaty that gives the United States of America control of that facility. We understand the aforementioned treaty gives the U.S. control of the Guantanamo Bay base and detention center in perpetuity.
