Larson Rec Center open house set for Thursday

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – After taking first at their home tournament last week, the Othello Huskies traveled to the 51st annual Tri-State Wrestling Tournament in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, taking ninth place in a tournament of nearly 60 teams from Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana. “The kids were excited, they know how tough Tri-State is and I think they were up for the challenge,” Othello Head Coach Rudy Ochoa II said. “They wanted to test themselves, and they were pretty dialed in all week.” ...

MOSES LAKE – With collaboration between Moses Lake Police Department, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Warden Police Department and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Shop with a Cop 2022 was a huge success, officials said. Children and their families were served pizza before heading out to the Moses Lake Walmart sales floor to do their Christmas shopping. After all was said and done, the children were able to take home newly bought and wrapped gifts to place under the Christmas tree in anticipation of Christmas Day. Moses Lake Food Bank to move to new location
MOSES LAKE — Moving Day has arrived for the Moses Lake Food Bank, and as a result it will be closed for the week of Dec. 26. Food Bank Operations Manager Peny Archer said distribution this week will include enough food to cover two weeks. The food bank will reopen Jan. 3 in its new location at the intersection of Grape Drive and State Route 17.

OLYMPIA — State Rep. Tom Dent (R– Moses Lake) will have a new committee leadership role when the 2023 legislative session convenes next month, according to a statement from Dent’s office. He’ll be the ranking Republican member on the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, the statement said. "I have been very involved in many of the issues before this committee and I have a good relationship with the chair, so this is a good opportunity for me to step in and officially be the lead voice of the caucus on the committee," Dent wrote in the statement. "There may be some high-profile issues before the committee in the upcoming session including riparian buffers, water rights and storage, wildfires and forest management." ...
REC Silicon targeted by ransomware attack
LYSAKER, NORWAY - According to a press release Monday from REC Silicon ASA, the company’s virtual server environment suffered a ransomware attack that caused business systems to stop functioning for a brief period of time. The release also stated that all systems of the company have been successfully restored with only minor data loss of a limited amount that does not appear to include any significant intellectual property. REC has implemented increased security and is taking additional steps to ensure the protection of its information and server environment from any future incidents, the release states.
Mims, Haener lead Fresno St. past Washington St. in LA Bowl
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Jordan Mims and Jake Haener helped complete the biggest in-season turnaround in Football Bowl Subdivision history in their final game for Fresno State, Mims rushed for a career-high 205 yards and two scores, Haener threw two TD passes and the Bulldogs rolled to a 29-6 victory over Washington State in the LA Bowl on Saturday.

MATTAWA — The Mattawa City Council wants to know when will work will resume on a walkway along Government Road. WA November unemployment rises slightly
OLYMPIA — Washington employers added 13,100 jobs in November, though the state’s unemployment rate also posted a slight increase to 4% from 3.8% in October, according to data published last week by the Washington State Employment Security Department. “Despite the uptick in the unemployment rate, unemployment is low by historic standards,” ESD State Economist Paul Turek said in the press release. “And while companies may be taking a more cautious approach to hiring, the number of jobs added in November indicates that we are still in a favorable environment for job seekers.” ...
Late morning fire damages Quincy shop Friday
QUINCY — Grant County Fire District 3 firefighters gain entry to a shop while fighting a fire in the building late Friday morning. The fire, in the 40 block of F Street SE, was reported at about 11:35 a.m., said GCFD 3 Assistant Chief Jim Kling. He added that the building sustained damage but was not destroyed. Kling said the cause of the fire was undetermined, but that an electrical issue was suspected. Firefighters were on the scene about an hour.
Underclassmen get valuable mat experience for Tigers
EPHRATA – With a roster full of underclassmen and varsity wrestlers with injuries, the younger Ephrata wrestlers have stepped into new roles as of late. “I feel like the kids are motivated, the kids are excited and they bring that same attention, same energy every day,” Ephrata Boys Wrestling Head Coach Austin Parker said. “They see the progress they’re making, even though they still may lose sometimes, they come back and want to keep working.
