Hazel Katherine Blackburn, 79, went home to be with the Lord at the age of seventy-nine on April 14th, 2010 at the Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata, Washington. Surrounded by her family and loved ones until the last moments, Hazel was dearly loved and adored by all.
Midori Osumi
Midori Osumi passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010 after a short illness with family at her bedside; a 12-year cancer survivor. Midori was raised in the Twin Falls area. After finishing her education, she enjoyed a period of travel. As a career, she worked with the Internal Revenue Service, Washington DC and Los Angeles. In 1950, Midori found the love of her life and married Fred, who has preceded her in death; they had one child, Gloria. The young family started farming on the Basin Project in its early years. Midori enjoyed gardening and took advantage of the Basin’s great weather. She was also a long term volunteer at the Grant County Fair, no matter what the weather and a founding member of the Nisei Woman’s Club. Midori was blessed with a giving spirit that found any opportunity to help others. After the attacks of 9-11, she made dolls for children who lost family members. As a member of a homemaker’s club, she made bibs that were used at Samaritan Hospital. Fish trembled at the name, Midori, as they knew they stood not a chance against her as a fisherman. Midori is survived by her beloved daughter, Gloria Vorhies, a son-in-law Miles Douglass, 2 brothers and 3 sisters left of 12, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and other relatives. Service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Benson’s Funeral Home, 104 W 5th Ave, Moses Lake, followed by a dinner at the O’Sullivan Grange.

Robert M. Trask, Sr. "Bob"
Robert M. Trask, Sr. “Bob” went to be with the Lord, April 7, 2010. He was born September 8, 1920 to Raymond H and Alice (Bauer) Trask in Boise, Idaho. Bob grew up in Boise and Reno, Nevada, graduating from Boise High School in 1940. Bob joined the United States Army in 1942. He served in the 14th & 16th Armored Divisions, Paratroopers and several Ordinance companies; he saw active combat in the Rhineland during World War II. Bob was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1946 from Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas.

Ruth E. Copley
Ruth E. Copley passed away in Moses Lake, WA. on March 30th 2010. She was born in Weed, California to Charles and Mildred Carabin, October 3rd 1927. Ruth was married to Parker Copley in 1947, and lived in Portland, Oregon for most of their 64 years marriage. Ruth was a telephone Operator for Bell Telephone Company. She and Parker enjoyed many years of hiking, backpacking and sailing. Ruth especially enjoyed sailboat racing with her husband on the Willamette river in Portland. They traveled many places in Mexico and enjoyed taking Amtrak to such places as Boston and New York. Following the death of her son, Ruth and Parker moved to Moses Lake to be near their daughter and their son in-law and Grandsons. Ruth joined TOPS in Moses Lake where she made many friends and was a committed member for several years. Ruth is preceded in death by her sister Betty Wingo, and her son Parker C. Copley. She is survived by her husband Parker G. Copley,daughter Carolyn Copley Casey and her husband Bill Casey of Moses Lake, grandson Scott Linville, of Spokane,WA, and Michael Copley Casey of Moses Lake. She is also survived by her sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews. Her service will be a small family gathering.Funeral arrangements have been made by Benson Funeral Home. Internment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

Susan Diane Frick passed away after a brief illness on March 27, 2010. She was born April 4, 1954 at Camp Stoneman, Pittsburg, CA. She was known as Sue to everyone. She graduated from Odessa High School, Odessa, Washington in 1972. She obtained her degree in History from Eastern Washington University, in Cheney, Washington and did graduate work in World War II European History also at EWU. She was a member of the “Children of the American Colonists” and as an adult a member of the “Daughters of the American Colonists.” Sue lived and worked in Spokane, WA for more than 25 years before moving to Moses Lake to care for her parents. While in Moses Lake she volunteered at the Moses Lake Food Bank. She loved the family wheat farm and her many dogs and cats over the years. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Marlin, Washington. Sue is survived by her parents, David and Mary Frick of Moses Lake, brothers David Frick of Seattle and Fred Frick of Spokane, and sister Joanne Frick of Ravenna, OH, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31st. Interment will follow in Guarding Angels Cemetery, Moses Lake. Viewing will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 30th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, March 31st from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In lieu flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
